So I’m so not a heels girl. I’m 5’6 and I’m also a New Yorker so yeah, heels have never really been a big part of my life…until I moved to LA. Not that anyone is any taller here (believe me, they’re not) but since people drive everywhere, it’s much easier to go out and where heels for a longer period of time. This is where Foot Petals come into my life, thank god.
I’ve recently bought a few new pairs of heels but have been hesitant to wear them since yeah, my feet still hurt…even with the driving. I recently tried out the Tip Toes, which supports the ball of the foot, at the VMAs and I’m not kidding when I say, it was a life-saver. Get a set for every pair of heels you own ASAP.
So I might be a little biased because the host of MyStyle.com’s new 3-Way web series is one of my besties…but I have to tell you, the new web series from MyStyle.com is pretty fabulous. Sydne Summer takes you through the latest fashion trends and shows you how to wear them in a functional way. First up? How to wear flare denim. I can remember when I first wore flare jeans…it had to be around 7th grade, and I loved every inch of them. Flare jeans are super flattering and, according to Sydne and MyStyle, you can wear them to work, on the weekend and for a night on the town. Make sure you check out MyStyle’s new web series for even more functional fashion tips. LOVE.
So a few weeks ago, I was asked to participate in an amazing Ralph Lauren campaign called Pink Pony 100 Bloggers Unite Against Cancer. I was super excited (and honored) to be included as one of the 100 bloggers and also super excited to help in the fight against cancer. For those who don’t know, the Pink Pony Fund was started in 2000 with a mission to reduce disparities in cancer care in medically underserved communities and ensure that treatment is available during the more curable stages.
This year Ralph Lauren is celebrating the 10th anniversaryof the Pink Pony campaign, quite an accomplishment, and it’s not just the blogger campaign that makes this news exciting. There will be a luxury auction hosted on CharityBuzz..com that will run from October 1st until October 21st and 100% of the proceeds from the auction will benefit the Pink Pony Fund. OR you can text to donate: PINKPONY to 501501 will automatically donate $10 to the cause. AND, on October 3rd and 4th, 100% of all net proceeds received from Pink Pony product sold at Ralph Lauren stores and on RalphLauren.com will benefit the Pink Pony Fund.
Also check out AOL’s StyleList.com to see the other 99 bloggers model their Pink Pony T-shirt.
So like I mentioned last week, I was invited to attend this year’s 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, courtesy of the fabulous Gucci Guilty fragrance. Me = seriously ecstatic. We met beforehand for some cocktails and apps at one of my favorites, Katsuya downtown, which just so happens to be right next to the Nokia Theater, site of the VMA’s. As I sat and chatted with other blogger and web friends, it kind of hit me how totally lucky I am to get to attend such amazing events in LA…and when Katsuya gets brought into the mix, well there’s no going back from there.
After I stuffed myself with Katsuya’s Baked Crab roll and Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna, we headed over to the show and went up to a VIP area, where they served even more food and alas, open bar. Heaven! Once the show started, I knew we were all in for a treat- my obsession with Chelsea Handler only grew stronger after such an amazing show…who doesn’t love a good meat-based dress, no? But what would an award show post be without a little fashion recap? Here are my three favorite looks from the night:
Audrina Patridge in this sparkly silver number…I have to say, I’m not always a fan of what Audrina wears but this dress is eye-catching and definitely VMA appropriate.
Evan Rachel Wood looks amaze in this subtle leopard Gucci number from Spring Resort 2011. Evan also happens to be the face of Gucci Guilty but I’m totally not biased…love this dress.
Ashley Greene. Well, normally this dress would be a little too frou-frou perfect for my taste but in this case, I like it. It’s age-appropriate and I love the black and white.
The thing about the VMA’s is that they’re about fun, not necessarily high fashion. A fun, sparkly, short dress is always a sure bet for the white carpet. I was lucky enough to be sent an amazing little number from Nuova Vita and I’m totally into it. This dress line is fab because the dresses come in several different colors and can be worn more than TWELVE ways. Seriously. I was a little confused at first but I check out the site’s very idiot-proof videos and now I’m a dress-wrapping pro. I opted for the one shoulder (a la Kim Kardashian) for this particular VMA event and mixed the cranberry color with pretty turquoise vintage earrings that my friend Tiffany got me for my birthday. I can’t wait to try out the eleven other ways to wear this baby.
So on Saturday I went shopping with India from Glam.com and Aly from SheKnows.com and I bought my first pair of jeggings. Yes, ladies, I have to tell you…the Gap’s version is actually a lot more flattering than I thought it would be. This little shopping excursion made me realize that yes, fall is coming. Since LA doesn’t really have any seasons, I’ve been kind of oblivious to the season changes and hence, started feeling a little anxious about fall shopping expectations.
This is where iVillage comes in- they’re holding a “Find Your Fall Style Challenge.” All you have to do is sign up and you can submit photos of your outfits or accessories to Style Coach, Kim Johnson of Gross of Chic Simple. She’ll give you advice on the best way to rock it…essentially she’s your free cyber stylist. And, as a bonus, just for signing up you’ll be automatically entered to win a $100 Target gift card to begin your fall shopping. Get on this fast.
So even though it’s been almost one year (can you even?) since I moved to LA, I’m still getting used to this whole super secret party thing that goes on. And yeah…I kinda love it. I was invited to Havaianas exclusive Midnight Swim Club’s last party of the season held at a private house (and by house, I mean mansion) in Hancock Park.
Now this wasn’t your usual LA party…upon arrival all guests were asked their shoe size and given a pair of the coveted Havainas Midnight Swim Club (MSC) navy blue and white flip flops before heading over to the bedazzling station. Score. Flip flops were strung over the pool and, by the time I arrived, there were plenty of drunk partygoers diving into the pool and having an awesome time.
So in the last year or so I’ve been really into fun bras. Up until that point, I wore the very basic plain black, tan or sometimes hot pink bra that, let’s face it, isn’t very exciting. They’re not terrible but there’s something secretly sexy about wearing a crazy bra underneath your regular clothing at work, no? Well when I was invited to the Frederick’s of Hollywoodfall press preview, I got super excited to check out their latest line.
We sipped champagne as I was taken around the store and, gotta tell you, it was my first time actually inside a Frederick’s of Hollywood. I was really into all the leopard print and made a note that I must choose the most fun bras for my fall bra wardrobe. No more boring bras for me!
After chatting with Jene’ Luciani, author of The Bra Book, it was time to try on some fun bras. Every bra I tried on fit like a glove, which is fabulous. I love when you can just know your size in a store so you don’t have to try on 30 of the same thing. I’m now fully stocked for fall so if you see me, just know that I might be wearing a sparkly purple bra under my black dress. 😉
