Trying out a new format this week! If you’re not familiar, I started doing The Monday Rundown as a roundup of four things (1 from each category: beauty, fashion, lifestyle, food) that make it a little easier to get through the worst day of the week…Monday. Let me know if you like the new format or if you prefer the old look.
Spent the weekend with the above view. Malibu is truly a gem of Southern California.
I recently took my first ballet class in about three years…and holy hell, am I sore.
Chiptole is probably one of my biggest guilty pleasures and I treated my self to a delish chicken fajita bowl on Saturday afternoon.
I’m not huge into lipstick (I prefer gloss) but when I found out that this beauty was named specifically after my friend Meg, I HAD to try it. And yes, I love it just as much as I love her.
ASOS Spike Drop Earrings: I need these. Period. Also, they are TEN DOLLARS. You read that correctly, TEN dollars.
Margarita Ice Pops: With the way the weather has been this past week, there’s nothing more refreshing than a margarita…so make that in ice pop form and it’s win-win.
Diptyque Le Langage de Fleurs Coffret: I’m 100% obsessed with Diptyque candles (Roses and Baies are my favorites) but the combo of Baies, Tubereuse and Jasmin is just heavenly. Now you know what to buy me for the holidays, just saying.
Summer is finally here! For me, summer often brings a new sense of self and I get really, really inspired to do all the things that I’ve been putting off for months (e.g. those pesky new years resolutions, etc.). This week I’ll be obsessing about the above:
AE Relaxed Boyfit Denim Shortie: I’m so not a shorts girl so this is kind of major for me. Even though my legs are pretty toned, they’re on the thicker side (thank you dance) and I’ve always been super self-conscious about wearing shorts and, up until recently, even wearing shorter dresses. I like these, in particular, because even though “boyfriend jeans” usually look atrocious on me, when it comes to shorts, the boy cut makes sense. They hang lower on the hips and don’t ride up in the thigh area, which is usually all too familiar for me (though I still recommend going one size up).
Anthropologie Vertices Drink Dispenser: There’s something so spa-like about drinking your water from a fancy glass dispenser. I’ll be cutting up fresh cucumber and soaking them in this container for an extra fancy bonus.
AVEDA Nourish-Mint Smoothing Lip Color: I love, lovvvve this gorgeous red lip color. I saw it on a friend a few weeks ago and honestly, it’s a show-stopper.
Truffle Kale Macaroni and Cheese: The food genius, otherwise known as Felicia Sullivan, re-created this recipe on her blog and I nearly died. This recipe combines three of my favorite things: kale, truffle (anything) and macaroni and cheese. Now if only I could cook…
I love a good brand collaboration and, of course, a good red lip. BareMinerals just announced that they partnered with Virgin Atlantic to give passengers a “taste of the high life” with the release of their signature Pretty Amazing lipcolor in “Upper Class Red.” According to the press release, the new shade is a spin on the iconic Virgin Atlantic red, which gives passengers the chance to experience the jet-set glamour and style synonymous with the airline’s distincitive cabin crew, known for their signature red lips, suits and shoes.
Passengers who want to purchase Upper Class Red can do so on board any Virgin Atlantic flight, the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse Spa at Heathrow, Gatwick and New York’s JFK International Airport.
The other day I found a lipstick in my makeup drawer. From high school. It was Mary Kay and an amazing frosty pink, which I LOVED…but um GROSS THAT I STILL OWN THIS LIPSTICK. This got me to thinking about exactly how long you’re really supposed to keep your makeup; I mean, I get it – sometimes we get attached to certain beauty products, when they are fantastic, but it’s actually pretty important to make sure that you don’t use these products for too long because they build up bacteria and you can actually really get sick (e.g. eye infections!). Here’s the general rule of thumb:
Foundation: 6 months (or if you can literally see it being weird, then a new bottle even sooner)
Powder: 2 years, as long as you clean your brushes! (see below)
Makeup brushes: once a month (use a baby shampoo or mild bar soap)
Eyeliner: I’ve read a few different opinions on this. Some say 3 months but others say you can use it down to the nub as long as you sharpen it with every use, which cleans it and keeps it fresh
Lipstick: 2 years (yes, I’m totally guilty at a good TEN years! Yuck!) It’s also recommended that you cut off the edge with a razor blade to keep it fresh
Here it was the first year…and here it was the second. Welcome to my third installation of my annual Anti-Valentine’s Day Gift Guide. I don’t do these because I’m down on love (I love love!) but instead, I like to find gifts that help me treat ME on Valentine’s Day. These are things that I want and would probably make my boyfriend buy me anyway…if I had one. Ha. That’s a totally different story…
