The 54th Annual GRAMMY’S!

Awards season is always a good time here in sunny (though not today!) Los Angeles.  Since some of the P&G beauty brands were the official sponsor this year, I got invited to a fun pre-Grammy party at MyHouse (and no, not my actual house) and then, lucky for me, MasterCard invited me to attend the actual Grammys this past Sunday.  Of course, I became immediately obsessed with Rihanna’s custom Giorgio Armani dress and thought “my GOD, she looks AMAZING.”  The cleavage, the back and, of course, the legs…which brings me to the new Venus & Olay Razor.

It’s not available until March 15th but I got my hands on one a little early and guys, it’s pretty awesome.  You actually don’t even really need separate shaving cream (or shower gel, as I frequently use) because the Olay hydrators actually help the blades glide across your skin.  Loving this…almost as much as I love Rihanna’s dress.

Refine Mixers Pre-Grammy Event at BLO Bar (hosted by me!)

It isn’t every day that I’m asked to host an event that’s honestly such a perfect fit for me.  When I was approached by Refine Mixers, I was flattered and excited because really, what do I love more than a low-calorie cocktail and getting my hair done.  Refine is now partners with BLO blow dry bar as their official cocktail mixer and guys, this stuff is awesome.  The cocktail mixer is all-natural, sugar-free and has ZERO calories – basically, you can make yourself a margarita for less than 100 calories…and that’s just from the tequila.

Aside from Refine’s two drink choices of the night, Red Carpet Margarita (see below for the recipe!) and Champagne Cos-Blo, attendees had the chance to get their hair blown out in true red carpet fashion.

Ciel Spa at the SLS Hotel, Thanks to Rue La La

A few months ago, the reps for Rue La La reached out to me with an a-pause-mazing deal.  Basically, they had a deal with Ciel Spa at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills for a 60 minute facial for only $90!  Seriously.  Now, I definitely don’t get facials as often as I should (shame, I know) but I loooove the SLS Hotel and so yeah, I jumped at the chance…well sort of.  Putting it all out there, I totally forgot about the Rue deal and then found the email right before it was about to expire.  Yeah, I’m honest.  But let me tell you…finding this facial deal was FATE.  The Ciel Spa did not dissapoint; it actually has one of the nicest waiting rooms/lounges that I’ve ever seen at a spa and my facial was to die for.  I’ve been through a lot of stress lately (more on that later) and it’s been showing on my skin, for sure.  My facialist evaluated my skin and told me the usual “your skin is so dry!” “your skin is so red!” Yeah, yeah, hunny…I know.  I have dry, sensitive skin that’s acne-prone and I have Rosacea.  WELCOME TO MY TWENTIES.  After I listened to the lecture, she did her thing cleaning out my pores, exfoliating and moisturizing.  One tip that I took with me – use more hyaluronic acid.  I’ve always know H.A. was good stuff but never really made it a point to actually use a product focused on the ingredient.  The facialist seemed to think that using more H.A. would help with my dryness and would still allow me to (every once in awhile) use Retinol, even though my skin is so sensitive.

I immediately dug through my beauty closet and found Arcona’s Magic White Ice, a daily hydrating gel serum that hydrates with hyalruronic acid and cranberry complex and neutralizes free radicals with vitamins B-5, C and E.  I am LOVING this stuff so far.  I put it on after I cleanse my face and then apply a heavy moisturizer (like my Kiehl’s Rosa Arctica).  LOVE.

New Year’s Eve Premiere with Dove

I went to the premiere of New Year’s Eve on Monday with my friend Devon (hanks to Dove)!  I’m always a little skeptical about movies that have like 45 celebrities because it usually because it usually becomes a “hey, what celeb is next!?” which always trumps the actual story line.  Regardless, there is a slew of amazing actors and actresses in the cast, including Ms. Lea Michele, who looked absolutely stunning.  I got the “how to” from her stylist Mark Townsend:

“It was all about modern glamour for Lea’s look at the premiere. Her Valentino dress reminded me of Old Hollywood, so we wanted to play off that with a young, modern version. I started by adding a large dollop of Dove Body & Lift Mousse to her damp hair and blow dried with a large round brush, giving Lea a deep side part. Next, I took 3-inch sections of hair and sprayed Dove Flexible Hold Hairspray on each section, and then wrapped the hair around a 2 inch curling iron, leaving the ends just a little straighter. For loads of shine and beautiful texture, I took a quarter size amount of Dove Nourishing Oil Care Nourishing Smooth-In Cream in my hands, rubbed them together and then raked my fingers through her hair for piecey-ness. I kept her fringe off her face by spraying Dove Extra Hold Hairspray on a small flat brush and brushing back and to the side.”

The after party was also a good time.  We sat at a table with “Dr. Sweets” from Bones, who I adore, and then took a bunch of faux New Year’s Eve photos in the custom photobooth.

Katy Perry’s New Hair (and awesome bracelet!)

I got a pitch Sunday morning letting me know that the oh-so-adorable Katy Perry wore a really awesome Stella & Dot bracelet (the Renegade Cluster bracelet, shown left) to a charity event in Los Angeles.

The bracelet is obviously very me but what I noticed immediately was Katy’s new super hot blondish/pink bob!  I mean…how cute is that cut?  If you know my hair history, you know that I’m not even a fan of short cuts on girls, most of the time, but this angled bob just suits Katy so well.  And I really love her color…I’m calling it “pink rehab.”  Enjoy.

The Hair Files: Balayage at Warren-Tricomi (and a head shot preview!)

Truth be told, I’m a total slacker of a blogger as of late.  For those who don’t know, I recently launched a hilarious (if I do say so myself) new website called AnnoyingAtTheGym.com and guys, finding those hilarious photos take some serious work.  I somehow let it slip through the cracks that back in October I got to visit the famous Warren-Tricomi salon in West Hollywood and I’m not quite sure how this happened, in all honesty.  It’s probably what I like to call “balayage shock” because as you’ve read before, I have an almost unhealthy obsession with my hair color and I discovered that THEY DO BALAYAGE AT WARREN-TRICOMI LOS ANGELES.  It requires all caps because, believe it or not, this quite rare on the left coast.  My girl in New York introduced me to balayage and I’ve been hooked ever since I realized that it’s beneficial for the following reasons: (and yes, I’m using bullet points cause that’s how serious I am about this)

  • They allow for “freehand highlighting.”  With foil highlights, you take four or five inch sections of hair at a time and sometimes you wind up overhighlighting your hair because of the large surface area.  Balayage allows for more strategic color application since the stylist paints pretty much wherever they think you need it.
  • No foils = less brassiness.  Brassy blonde hair is the devil, according to me.  Foil conducts heat and processes hair faster and more aggressively, which is one of the main causes of that gross orange color that happens to me.

But I digress.  My appointment was originally with Kaz Amor who I was desparate to see after talking to Nadine Jolie about who did her hair such an amazing shade.  I met with Kaz and he took at look at my hair…he immediately said “you know what?  Have you ever tried balayage?”  It was like he could read my mind.  I pretty much gave up on even asking stylists in LA if they did it…so I was pretty much speechless when Kaz said, “I would love to do your hair but I really think balayage would be the best thing for you…and I have someone else here who does it REALLY well.”  SOLD.

And the result?  Well I recently had head shots taken.  OK, you can laugh.  Please feel free to comment “ooooh my god.  Jamie you are SO LA now.”  Yes, ladies, I now have head shots.  But you know what?  My hair color looks damn good…so say what you will about selling out, but you can’t knock the hair.

P.S. – this photo is un-touched…I’m still waiting on the photoshopped version where you will most likely confuse me for Heidi Klum.  Stay tuned.

Guest Post: Hello Kitty for Forever21 LA Launch Event

I got an invite to the super cute launch of Hello Kitty for Forever21 last week and I knew there was only one person who should cover it for my blog, my friend Devon.  Devon really likes (actually she really LOVES Hello Kitty) so obviously, she was really excited to attend the event at the Forever21 at the Hollywood and Highland mall.  Here’s Devon’s take on the launch event:

It’s 7pm on a Thursday night and there is a line of more than 400 people on Hollywood Blvd. No, it’s not a movie premiere but the launch party of the Forever 21 for Hello Kitty Collection. The party not only gave you access to purchase items from the collection but also featured a nail art station, cupcakes and sweets, and outfits modeled by Kendall and Kylie Jenner as well as Hello Kitty herself! Of course I took advantage of the nail art station (duh!) opting for a peach color and nail art with a Hello Kitty face on one nail and a group of little jewels on another. I had to walk around with semi wet nails so it was hard for me to get my shop on, but don’t worry I was able to snag three shirts that I love! The collection itself is filled with highly wearable items that aren’t in your face Hello Kitty but very subtle hints making it easy to even wear to the office. Of course these items are flying off the racks (and the website!) so head on over to your local Forever 21 and check out the collection. – Devon Heck
