The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards

So like I mentioned last week, I was invited to attend this year’s 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, courtesy of the fabulous Gucci Guilty fragrance.  Me = seriously ecstatic.  We met beforehand for some cocktails and apps at one of my favorites, Katsuya downtown, which just so happens to be right next to the Nokia Theater, site of the VMA’s.  As I sat and chatted with other blogger and web friends, it kind of hit me how totally lucky I am to get to attend such amazing events in LA…and when Katsuya gets brought into the mix, well there’s no going back from there.

After I stuffed myself with Katsuya’s Baked Crab roll and Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna, we headed over to the show and went up to a VIP area, where they served even more food and alas, open bar.  Heaven!  Once the show started, I knew we were all in for a treat- my obsession with Chelsea Handler only grew stronger after such an amazing show…who doesn’t love a good meat-based dress, no?  But what would an award show post be without a little fashion recap?  Here are my three favorite looks from the night:

Audrina Patridge in this sparkly silver number…I have to say, I’m not always a fan of what Audrina wears but this dress is eye-catching and definitely VMA appropriate.

Evan Rachel Wood looks amaze in this subtle leopard Gucci number from Spring Resort 2011.  Evan also happens to be the face of Gucci Guilty but I’m totally not biased…love this dress.

Ashley Greene.  Well, normally this dress would be a little too frou-frou perfect for my taste but in this case, I like it.  It’s age-appropriate and I love the black and white.

The thing about the VMA’s is that they’re about fun, not necessarily high fashion.  A fun, sparkly, short dress is always a sure bet for the white carpet.  I was lucky enough to be sent an amazing little number from Nuova Vita and I’m totally into it.  This dress line is fab because the dresses come in several different colors and can be worn more than TWELVE ways.  Seriously. I was a little confused at first but I check out the site’s very idiot-proof videos and now I’m a dress-wrapping pro.  I opted for the one shoulder (a la Kim Kardashian) for this particular VMA event and mixed the cranberry color with pretty turquoise vintage earrings that my friend Tiffany got me for my birthday.  I can’t wait to try out the eleven other ways to wear this baby.

Belvedere’s Pre-VMA party at the Hollywood Roosevelt

So my love for the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel is endless so needless to say, when I found out the top secret location of Belvedere’s Pre-VMA BELVE Music Lounge just happened to be the Hollywood Roosevelt, I let out a squeal of excitement.  My friend Jen and I walked down to the Roosevelt from my apartment and hung out by the famed Tropicana Pool, sipped on some delicious Grapefruit Belvedere Vodka and watched in awe as B.O.B jumped up on the roof and started singing his hit songs that they just will not stop playing on the radio.  The highlight was definitely the Grapefruit Vodka…I’d been dying to try it since Chelsea Handler featured it on her show.  It’s amazing and grapefruit is good for you so drink up.

Contest Alert: Win two tickets to a pre-MTV VMA party in the Hollywood Hills!

So living in LA is all about sunshine, working out and eating healthy…which is exactly why I love Sensible Portions.  And you know what else I love?  Awards shows.  I’m offically announcing that I’ll be attending this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, hosted by my fave, Chelsea Handler, so stay tuned for live Tweets and a post-event blog post from me.  And a BIG thank you to P&G Prestige (Gucci Guilty) for the invite!

Now what do if you can’t go to the VMAs but you live in LA, are over 21 and want to go to an awesome VIP party?  Just go to the Sensible Portions Facebook page and let them know your favorite late-night snack.  Tell them and they might pick you as the winner of two tickets (you and a friend) to their exlusive VIP pre-party in my very own backyard (the Hollywood Hills).  It’s a pool party during the day with a surprise musical guest performance at night.  Truth be told, I don’t know who the surprise musical guest is…but in my experience, when it comes to “surprise” musical guests, they’re usually pretty good (aka Jay-Z one time at Jones Beach)!  Make sure you also “like” their page as well for bonus points.

Labor Day, LA style…

So this Labor Day weekend was my first (well, my first with actual plans) in sunny Los Angeles.  In fact, it’s now officially been ONE YEAR since I moved to the gold coast and believe me, I’m still in shock. It’s funny to think back to a year ago and remember that terrified feeling I had about being in a completely new environment knowing only a few people with no real certainty of what would happen.  And now, well…I guess crazy and fate are two words that come to mind.

After a crazy Friday at Raging Waters, Sydne had friends over for a Saturday pool party where the hit of the party was undoubtedly Shiseido Extra Smooth Sun Protection Lotion SPF 38 PA++ for Face and Body.  I had been sent this sunblock awhile back and decided to give it a try…and omg, I’m obsessed.  We all sat around the pool sipping sangria and I couldn’t shut up about how good the sunblock smelled and how soft and silky it was when I applied it.  It got to the point where everyone was like “ok, well we have to try this stuff too if it’s so amazing.”  The verdict?  Even the BOYS were impressed.  One particularly impressed guy at the party, Andy, said how he liked that it was smooth like a lotion but almost had the consistency of an oil.  Not kidding.  He actually said that and I think he’s been secretly moonlighting as a beauty editor.

Friends aside, the product is, as its name says, “extra smooth” and is formulated with rose apple leaf extract, which delivers an excellent boost of antioxidants…plus it’s sand-proof, sweat-proof and water-resistant.

Whitney Port “kisses for a cause” at Sephora

So I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about the LA-based charity organization, The Beauty Bus Foundation lately.  And when I hear about one of my favorite reality TV stars teaming up with a great store like Sephora, I need to report it.  Whitney Port kicked off the “Kiss for a Cause” initiative here in LA.  The three week-long initiative benefits The Beauty Bus Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for homebound, terminally or chronically ill people and their primary caregivers by bringing beauty into their lives.  During the promotion, Sephora is inviting its clients to try one of fall’s hottest trends- the bold, red lip and donate their kiss to the in-store collage.  Whit was among the first to donate her kiss, choosing Make Up Forever’s Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick in #42, Moulin Rouge as her favorite shade.

Wanna get in on the action?  From now until September 15th, $1 of every qualifying red lip purchase at Sephora will be donated in support of The Beauty Bus Foundation, up to $25,000.  Check out your local Sephora store to find out which red lip products make the cut.

2010 Emmy’s Recap

So on Sunday I had the privilege of attending the 2010 Emmy’s Red Carpet with my friend Aly.  We sat front row as the celebs strutted their stuff down the red carpet and highlights, oh…there were tons of highlights.  Aly and I both spotted our celeb twins (Angela from “The Office” for Aly and Jane Krakowski from “30Rock” for me) in addition to um, pretty much everyone who attended.  My faves? Two words- January Jones.  For some reason this dress doesn’t look as good in photographs but in person it actually made my jaw DROP.  Claire Danes comes in as number two for me…it’s hard for us fair-skinned blondes to pull off a fleshy color like this but she does it and she does it well.  Coming in at a trong third- well I try not to let my love for Jane Krakowski make me biased but you have to admit, she does look fabulous.

After the red carpet madness was over, Aly and I headed over to the Lukaro Salon in Beverly Hills for a fun viewing party thrown by Suave.  Suave decided to hold an amazing contest where fans could vote on the beauty look that “Modern Family” star, Sofia Vergara, would wear at the awards show.  The winner was “Glamorous Waves” and Sofia was styled by Suave Professionals celebrity Jenny Cho.  The best part- Sofia’s entire award show look- the dress and Suave Professionals products used to create the winning look- will be auctioned off by the Clothes Off Our Back Fondation to benefit children’s charities across the glob.  And how great does she look?

After mingling with friends and sipping on a “Suave-tini,” my stylist, Theodore, blew my hair out for a fun Emmy’s party look.
