Hannah Tries out a cat eye

hannah cat eye 2

With this week’s release of Lauren Conrad’s adorable, and beyond enviable, engagement photos, I couldn’t help but be inspired to try one of LC’s (yes, she will always be LC to me no matter how far she’s journeyed from Laguna Beach) signature looks—the cat eye.

Now while Lauren may have borrowed her inspiration from the original cat eye queen herself, Cleopatra, I sought my muses from the Spring 2014 runway.  From Anna Sui to Dolce & Gabbana to Salvatore Ferragamo, the runway was covered with models winging it out.  So as Spring approaches (hopefully sooner rather than later, am I right east coast?), I decided it was time to grab my eyeliner and try it out myself.

I opted for Revlon ColorStay Liquid Eye Pen and followed THIS YOUTUBE TUTORIAL from LC herself and her makeup artist, AMY NADINE.

The ColorStay Liquid Eye Pen was easy to use and the color didn’t smear across my eyelid like with other liquid liners.  I followed Lauren’s guidance for a more conservative winged eye, but based on the results, I might just knock it up a notch the next time I’m feeling…well, catty.

Meow.

Just Wink

IMG_0776-final

Truth be told, I’ve never been a big fan of VALENTINE’S DAY (Anti Valentine’s Day Gift Guide 2014 to come) and all of the forced “love” that goes along with it…I mean, shouldn’t we love our friends, families and significant others EVERY day?  All that aside, one of my favorite Valentine’s Day memories is from college.  I had a really rough day in class and I came back to my dorm room and found a dozen red roses from my dad. It was a really sweet gesture and definitely made up for the fact that my day royally sucked otherwise.  But I digress, and I’ll save the ranting for a different post.  What I AM a fan of is new apps, especially when they involve letting me create fun things to send my friends and family.

card

My new favorite app, justWink, has nearly 675 card options to choose from, as well as the ability to add your actual signature, photos, etc. and can be sent via text, email, Facebook or Twitter, really giving you no excuse not to send a Valentine or two.  Another feature that I really love is the fact that you can actually have the card send to someone via (gasp) snail mail for only $3.49, which is way less than actual greeting cards cost in store.  This feature only takes about 3-5 days and you can even attach a gift card!

Download the app here.

Hair Depression: It’s a Thing

Jamie Stone makeup

I was chatting with my friend Ashley the other night at an event and telling her about how, since moving to LOS ANGELES, I’ve had the best hair of my life.  It sound ridiculous, but my HAIR completely effects my mood- e.g. if it was raining and humid while I lived in NEW YORK CITY, I sometimes opted to not go out.  Believe me, I know how insane this sounds…”Is Jamie saying she actually wouldn’t leave her apartment when the weather was shitty?”  The answer is yes, yes I did that.  Let me step back a bit and explain…my hair, it’s naturally wavy and frizzy.  I don’t have a lot of hair, but the hair that I do have is very textured and gets huge at even the slightest sign of moisture in the air, which ultimately blows if you live on the east coast.  Los Angeles’ dry climate has been an absolute god-send for me and now that I’m taking a break from my hair extensions, I’ve recently been feeling a little bit drab in the hair department.  I’m thinking about spicing it up a bit but I’m not sure what yet…possibly cutting off some inches or maybe going a little lighter (again)?  We will see.  All I know is, I recently thought about a run-in I had with a guy I knew from high school while still living in New York:

Me: Hey “guy”

“Guy”: Hey Jamie…nice hair. Bahahaha.

I’ll admit it, the weather was AWFUL that day; my hair was super poufy and the pieces around my face were curling in every direction imaginable, as they do.  It was spring time, pouring rain, and like 65 degrees, which makes for the wettest weather possible.  I get it.  We always had the kind of relationship where we gave each other shit but apparently he never learned that there are two things you don’t use as ammo against a girl: her weight and HER HAIR.  Needless to say, my hair and I are MUCH HAPPIER now…the only time I get any kind of frizz is when I’m near the beach for too long.

So yeah…a change is coming but, in the mean time, my hair and I will be enjoying the desert climate here in California.  And to clarify, the photo in this post is WITH EXTENSIONS. Sad face. I miss them already.

Do you guys feel the same way? Does bad weather give you hair depression?

The Hot Toddy

hot toddy

With winter in full swing, cocktails might be the furthest thing from your mind, especially if you happen to catch a cold. But staying in when it’s cold outside won’t seem nearly as bad when you get cozy with a HOT TODDY to warm you up. This drink is said to help clear congestion and help you sleep…and, it has the added benefits of being simple to make and tasty. I keep this one in my arsenal to make instead of chicken soup for when my friends are sick.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ oz brandy, whiskey, or rum
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • ½ a lemon
  • Water
  • 1 tea bag, optional

Directions:

  • Coat the bottom of a regular mug or Irish coffee glass with the honey
  • Add your liquor of choice and the juice of your lemon
  • Meanwhile, heat water. Pour the hot water over the teabag, if using, into your mug or glass
  • Let the tea steep according to the type you’re using, and remove the tea bag (I like to stir to make sure all the honey is dissolved. Enjoy!)

You can use plain hot water if you prefer it that way, but I think the beauty of this drink is the endless options for experimentation. Try a cinnamon tea and throw in a with a cinnamon stick in there for good measure. Or use a chai blend, and you won’t need to add any spices at all. Use a sweeter herbal tea and you might omit the honey. I’d say to avoid anything caffeinated, because this warm drink makes a perfect nightcap – but I’ve seen people use green tea for the antioxidants and enjoy it just as much.
