Apple Cider vodka Cocktail

For me, there’s something synonymous about fall and apple cider. It reminds me of childhood apple picking days in New York with my family, and then coming home and drinking all of the amazing cider that we bought while at the apple orchid. I like apples, sure, but apple cider is where it’s AT guys. While home visiting my family for Christmas a few years ago, I found myself up late watching TV while everyone else was asleep…I’ve always been a night owl, so it’s not really any big surprise. My dad ran out of wine that night and I was craving a cocktail as I watched old episodes of Law & Order: SVU, as we do. After checking my dad’s fridge, where he keeps ALL wine (both white AND red- don’t ask), I realized he was out and my options were: water, orange juice and, wait for it, apple cider. Instinctively I went for the OJ because lord knows I loved me a good Screwdriver in college, but then a light went off in my head about the cider. I mean, if vodka works well with orange juice, why not fancy apple juice? The verdict: DELICIOUS.

Apple Cider Vodka Cocktail

1 shot of vodka
1-2 ice cubes
Apple cider
Cinnamon Stick and/or apple slice for garnish

1. Put ice cubes into 8 ounce glass, and add shot of vodka

2. Fill the glass up with apple cider

3. Stir the drink with the cinnamon stick and add apple slice, if desired

Ugggh, every time she speaks, I love her THAT much more. Kristen Bell has been one of my favorites since the days of Veronica Mars and when she signed on to be a Neutrogena Naturals spokesperson, it pretty much sealed the deal that she’s the coolest person EVER. My latest piece for Shape.com: Healthy One-Pot Meals

Many of you might know that I recently started freelancing for Shape.com and it’s quickly becoming a big obsession for me, e.g. researching and learning about healthy recipes. Yes, I said it. The girl who literally never cooked anything aside from pasta (until maybe four years ago) is now writing articles about COOKING. It’s a big accomplishment for me, both as a writer AND as a 30-year-old who used to literally live on NYC Chinese takeout and salads from Chipotle. Ok, so I still probably get salads from Chipotle at least twice a week (they are GOOD, guys), but at least now I can feasibly make simple and healthy things for myself. Case and point, THESE recipes for healthy one-pot meals. Tell me, what are your easy go-to meals?

Here’s the thing. I’ve been picky about my clothing for a LONG TIME. Ask my mom, she’ll tell you how I would wake up, as a 4-year-old kid and politely tell my mom that no, in fact I was not going to wear the outfit that she picked out for me. True story. So yeah, when I find things that are truly, honestly innovative and amazing, I get pretttty excited about it. Case and point, these three items:

InStyle Essentials Classic Button-Front Shirt: Essentially, this is a button down shirt that uses your bra size to ensure a perfect fit. So basically, I would normally buy a medium and then be annoyed when the button in the middle of my boobs opens up CONSTANTLY. Again, true story. In this case, I ordered a 36C, which allowed for the PERFECT fit; It didn’t open up in the bust AND it wasn’t gigantic around my waist. How did no one think of this before?

LOFT “Marisa” Ankle Pant: When I say that I HATE shopping for pants, that’s pretty much an understatement. When I found out about LOFT’s Pant Revolution I got honestly, truly excited…and let me tell you why. They surveyed 10,000 women, with 400 pairs of pants from LOFT competitors. Survey says: 47% of women find shopping for pants frustrating (DUH), which is why they devised 45 options, pants options, that is, in different fits, lengths, fabrics, styles, prints and colors. Now, I’m a “Marisa” and I, in fact, looked terrible in the Julie, which convinced me that their system really does work. Bandolier Phone Holder: This genius iPhone holder would’ve saved my life in my former PR years. I love that it not only holds your phone where you still have access to the screen, but it also has little slots for business cards/ids/credit cards. It’s basically everything you need, in one cute patterned holder.
