You’ve Heard of Revenge Sex…But How About Revenge Beauty?

After getting dumped (or generally just treated like crap), everyone will react differently; some girls will eat tons of junk food, others go shopping and splurge on beauty treatments.  The latter is THIS GIRL right here.  For the amount of money that I’ve spent pampering myself out of depression over the past few years, I could seriously buy a townhouse in SoHo.  I wish I were kidding…but here it is, sometimes (ok, most of the time) treating myself just makes me FEEL BETTER and there’s nothing wrong with that.  So basically, I take the whole “treat yo self” from Parks and Recreation thing to a whole other level after some douchebag decides that he’s “just not that into me” or stops calling.  Here’s a breakdown of what I do for my revenge beauty treatment:

Step 1: Book a massage appointment somewhere fancy, and with a male masseuse.

I don’t really have to explain why massages are awesome.  For one, it’ll help you relax and you’ll start thinking about how that asshole didn’t know how to give a proper massage and how much hotter your male masseuse is, compared to that dick you now hate.  And here’s a tip, if they ask you what area you want to focus on, say you feel tension in your lower back…this means that you’ll probably end up getting your butt massaged which, I can’t lie, feels pretty amazing.

Step 2: Buy that really expensive beauty product that you previously said “I can’t. It’s too much for what it is” to.  I don’t know what it is about face masks but I just can’t bring myself to buy them.  I read about Boscia’s Luminizing Black Mask in a few magazines but when I realized that the mask costs $34, I didn’t buy it.  It’s actually not THAT much money, in beauty terms, but I’ve always held strong when it comes to face masks since I don’t feel like they actually ever DO anything to my face.  But when you’re in beauty revenge mode, you buy that shit right this minute.  And here I am…black face mask and all my beauty revenge glory:

Step 3: Drink.  It’s a simple one but drink those high-calorie drinks that you normally pass up for a vodka soda.  Mimosas!  Margaritas!  Hell, even go for a Strawberry Daiquiri if that’s your deal.  And, if you’re in New York City, I can even do you one better.  The wine-based skincare line Caudalie has a spa at the Plaza Hotel where they actually do wine-based treatments and even serve wine in the relaxation/waiting area.  I’ve been.  And it’s glorious, trust me.  You can kill two birds with one stone (steps 1 and 3, and maybe even step 2) just by going there.  The Dry Body Fresh Grape Massage is amazing, though very sticky, and you can pretty much get wasted before and after the massage actually takes place.

Step 4: Get a blow out.  Nothing, I repeat NOTHING will make you feel better than having good hair.  Put on your favorite yoga pants and tank top (you don’t even need to get dressed, really) and get your hair blown out at a fancy salon or blow dry bar.  I promise you, you’ll instantly feel chic and put together.

Step 5: Buy a ridiculously frivolous piece of “fine leather goods.”  Parks and Recreation said it right.  Men don’t understand why we buy pointless small leather shit so NOW is the time to buy that weird Gucci heart-shaped coin purse (who carries a coin purse?) or that Tory Burch shoe key chain, just because those infamous ballet flats make you remember your college glory days.  DO IT.  Enjoy your coin purse and shoe key chain.  The next guy will appreciate them, too…but probably not really.

St. Patrick’s Day Beauty Products! (Irish Girl-Approved)

Growing up with fair skin wasn’t easy, to say the least.  I can’t even tell you how many summers I spent in the shade, slathered in sunblock, watching my friends rub baby oil on their skin and soon after get the sexiest golden tan that you could possibly imagine.  It’s a simple fact: being pale with freckles wasn’t desirable when I was a teenager; however, now, at almost 30, I am SO GLAD that I was born with freckled, Irish skin that I was given.  Why?  Well, for one, I look way younger (and age slower) than everyone else and it’s really just now that I’m starting to appreciate that little fact.  Sure, a nice tan makes you look thinner, but that’s what spray tans are for…I digress.  With St. Patrick’s Day coming up, I got to thinking about my fair-skinned beauty tricks that I’ve learned over the years, mixed with a little Irish makeup fun.

Don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel! My manager has been giving me tips and my videos are definitely getting better, if I do say so myself, haha.

Featured in the video:

Neutrogena Beach Defense Water + Sun Sunscreen SPF 30: a MUST for everyone. Learn more about their Helioplex Complex HERE.

Fusion Beauty PrimeResults Anti-Redness Primer: This primer is great for fair, Irish skin since rosacea is quite common.  The primer has claims that show 50% reduction in overall redness after only six weeks.

Lancome Flash Bronzer Anti-Age: Every pale-skinned girl needs a good self-tanner!  I’m a longtime fan of Lancome’s tanning products; they don’t streak and they give a natural bronzy glow.

Sue Devitt Hydrating Marine Minerals Eye Palette in “Green Isles”: Probably the prettiest green eye palette that you’ll ever find.

COVERGIRL Liquiline Blast eyeliner in “Green Glow”: If you want a subtle green eyes look for St. Patrick’s Day, this bright green eyeliner is the way to go.

Physician’s Formula Shimmer Strips Glam Hazel Eyes mascara: Gold mascara? YES.  It reminds me of the whole “pot o’ gold” thing that used to make me so excited as a little kid.

Inspired By: The Year of the Snake

If there’s one thing I know about, it’s a snake.  And guys, 2013…it’s the YEAR of the snake or, the black snake, to be exact.  I’ve always been curius about astrology and, in all honesty, I think it definitely does have some merrit…but, you know, you can’t take it too seriously (like anything in life, really) and I’m constantly annoyed by all of the hippie dippies out here in LA when they say “what’s your sign?” after I say “hi, I’m Jamie.”  I digress.

1. Zara Snake Print Neckerchief: I like a good neckerchief…who doesn’t?  A good scarf can dress up any plain outfit and animal print is always on-trend.

2. Jennifer Fisher Brass Large Snake Cuff: I’m weirdly into snake jewelry, ask my friends, and this Jennifer Fisher cuff is pretty bad ass, I have to say.

3. Rachel Zoe “Laura” Snake Ballet Flats: It’s totally cliche but anything that’s Rachel Zoe-approved is A-OK by me.  I love a good ballet flat.  I love me some animal print.  So…done deal.

4. Essie Magnetic Nail Polish in “Snake, Rattle & Roll”: Aside from having the coolest nail polish name EVER, this polish is actually pretty awesome.  It lasts longer than most and gives nails a really unique texture.

5. Jacqui Aiche Extra Long Snake Ring: If you read this blog, you know I love a statement ring, which is why you shouldn’t be surprised at all that I love this extra long, gold, snake ring.  DUH.

Beauty Products Actually Worth the Money (and that I buy for myself!)

It’s not that often that I actually spend my own money on beauty products.  Sorry, but it’s a true story.  However, these are the products that I just simply ADORE and can’t live with out, free or not.  Watch the video to hear all of the captivating details and don’t forget to to subscribe to my YouTube channel!

Vivicscal Extra Strength: My hair growth miracle.

Yes to Cucumber Facial Towelettes: Perfect makeup cleansing cloths for my dry, sensitive skin!  Seriously, I’m obsessed with these.

Clinque Even Better Makeup SPF 15: It’s a moderate to full coverage (with SPF!) and the foundation also helps prevent new discolorations from forming.

Aquaphor Healing Ointment: I put this on EVERYTHING.  Got a skin issue?  Put some Aquaphor on it, no joke.  It’s an all-purpose skin products.

Moroccan Oil Treatment Light: The new-ish version (for fine hair) is even better for my hair, since it doesn’t weight it down but still smooths and prevents frizz.

Three Questions With Coco Rocha

Coco Rocha is one of those effortlessly chic and amazingly NICE super models that you actually want to be friends with.  I never thought I’d say that about a supermodel…or ANY model, for that matter, but after chatting with the Banana Republic Mad Men Collection (available starting TODAY!) spokesperson, I’m totally #TeamCoco.

Q: What’s your favorite piece in the Banana Republic Mad Men Collection?
A: (This dress here)  It’s a bold statement…you want to be the person everyone’s looking at going ‘wow, where did you get that from?’

Q: What advice would you give yourself five years ago?
A:
Five years ago…that’s not that long ago, but still far enough…I think about being a model and the jobs that I chose, I didn’t have a voice for myself…I think that I could’ve reassured myself that you know what, what you’re doing IS ok, you know what? Go for it.

Q: What are your top three favorite beauty products?
A:
I’d have to say, it’s all makeup-related.  I wear makeup every single day, even to the grocery store, so I’m not that model that doesn’t wear makeup.  I’d have to say eyeliner, you can do a lot with it.  Cover up, because I am very, VERY fair so my freckles come out (she loves L’OREAL Magic Smooth Soufflee) and a good contour cream.

See the FULL INTERVIEW HERE.

Me, in the same dress Coco is wearing…yeah, GREAT decision. LOL.

Invisalign: My Results!

I want to start off by saying that I paid for 100% of my Invisalign system.  I’m not affiliated with the brand in any way, so when I say that I’ve been getting TONS of emails and comments on my previous Invisalign videos, you can believe…it’s for a reason.  I get it; it’s an expensive investment, but my Grandfather (who passed away with a full set of teeth, mind you) told me that you should always take care of your teeth.  Watch the video and let me know what you think of my results!  I’m very happy 🙂
