The Skinny LA Bitch cocktail

So lately I’ve been really into grapefruit juice.  I mean, it’s a favorite of one of my favorites, Ms. Chelsea Handler, and yeah…it’s actually really good for you too.  These facts are exactly what lead me to create my very own signature cocktail, the Skinny LA Bitch.  Give it a whirl and let me know what you think…I’m pretty impressed with myself right now, personally.  Delish.

  • Ice
  • 7 -10 counts of Belvedere vodka
  • Light Grapefruit juice- the REAL juice, not cocktail juice (1/2 the calories!)
  • a quick spritz of club soda at the top

My 1 Year “LAnniversary” Party

So I can’t believe it myself, but it’s been ONE whole year since I left New York City and moved to Los Angeles.  In honor of me lasting an entire year in a city that some people thought I might hate, I threw a little party that I dubbed my “LAnniversary” party.

Gwen Stefani gets a wax figure

So since my love for Gwen Stefani is eternal, I’m actually surprised that I never questioned why Gwennie didn’t have her own wax figure.  When I first heard about this, I secretly (or maybe not-so-secretly) hoped that the Gwen look-alike would be at the Madame Tussauds in LA, which also happens to be right down the street from my apartment, but no- alas, it’s in Las Vegas.

The wax figure was revealed last week and Gwen (who, can you believe it, is 40!) stood and looked in awe at herself, immortalized in wax.  It’s reported that the Gwennie figure took over 500 hours to sculpt and cost $300,000 to make.  Crazzzzy.

Wine Wipes = genius

So as a self-proclaimed wino, I’m literally shocked that I just discovered this genius little product- Wine Wipes.  Yes ladies, you no longer have to fear being on that date, sipping red wine and then catching a glimpse of yourself in the mirror to see your stained teeth.  Honestly, it’s 90% of the reason I usually opt for white.  Now, thanks to Wine Wipes, you can drink all the red wine you want.  The little wipes look like eye makeup remover pads and contain powerful ingredients like baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and salt to clean off your teeth in a quick snap.  Love these and kinda wonder why I didn’t invent them myself.

The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards

So like I mentioned last week, I was invited to attend this year’s 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, courtesy of the fabulous Gucci Guilty fragrance.  Me = seriously ecstatic.  We met beforehand for some cocktails and apps at one of my favorites, Katsuya downtown, which just so happens to be right next to the Nokia Theater, site of the VMA’s.  As I sat and chatted with other blogger and web friends, it kind of hit me how totally lucky I am to get to attend such amazing events in LA…and when Katsuya gets brought into the mix, well there’s no going back from there.

After I stuffed myself with Katsuya’s Baked Crab roll and Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna, we headed over to the show and went up to a VIP area, where they served even more food and alas, open bar.  Heaven!  Once the show started, I knew we were all in for a treat- my obsession with Chelsea Handler only grew stronger after such an amazing show…who doesn’t love a good meat-based dress, no?  But what would an award show post be without a little fashion recap?  Here are my three favorite looks from the night:

Audrina Patridge in this sparkly silver number…I have to say, I’m not always a fan of what Audrina wears but this dress is eye-catching and definitely VMA appropriate.

Evan Rachel Wood looks amaze in this subtle leopard Gucci number from Spring Resort 2011.  Evan also happens to be the face of Gucci Guilty but I’m totally not biased…love this dress.

Ashley Greene.  Well, normally this dress would be a little too frou-frou perfect for my taste but in this case, I like it.  It’s age-appropriate and I love the black and white.

The thing about the VMA’s is that they’re about fun, not necessarily high fashion.  A fun, sparkly, short dress is always a sure bet for the white carpet.  I was lucky enough to be sent an amazing little number from Nuova Vita and I’m totally into it.  This dress line is fab because the dresses come in several different colors and can be worn more than TWELVE ways.  Seriously. I was a little confused at first but I check out the site’s very idiot-proof videos and now I’m a dress-wrapping pro.  I opted for the one shoulder (a la Kim Kardashian) for this particular VMA event and mixed the cranberry color with pretty turquoise vintage earrings that my friend Tiffany got me for my birthday.  I can’t wait to try out the eleven other ways to wear this baby.

Belvedere’s Pre-VMA party at the Hollywood Roosevelt

So my love for the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel is endless so needless to say, when I found out the top secret location of Belvedere’s Pre-VMA BELVE Music Lounge just happened to be the Hollywood Roosevelt, I let out a squeal of excitement.  My friend Jen and I walked down to the Roosevelt from my apartment and hung out by the famed Tropicana Pool, sipped on some delicious Grapefruit Belvedere Vodka and watched in awe as B.O.B jumped up on the roof and started singing his hit songs that they just will not stop playing on the radio.  The highlight was definitely the Grapefruit Vodka…I’d been dying to try it since Chelsea Handler featured it on her show.  It’s amazing and grapefruit is good for you so drink up.

Contest Alert/Three Questions with Andrea Lavinthal

So I’ve known Andrea Lavinthal for a few years now and I have to say, she regularly impresses me with her witty writing, in-depth beauty knowledge and lastly, the fact that ‘she’s co-written THREE books by the age of 30.  Impressive, to say the least.  Her latest is titled Your So-Called Life: A Guide to Boys, Body Issues, and Other Big-Girl Drama You Thought You Would Have Figured Out by Now (available tomorrow).  After checking out an advanced copy, I realized how I am completely and totally in this phase of my life…it’s a mix of the quarter life crisis and what Andrea and co-author Jessica call your “thrisis” or “redo-berty.”  Check out the three burning questions I had for Andrea and enter for a chance to win your own free copy of her genius book.

Q: What does “thirty, flirty and thriving” mean to you?

A: Depends on the day.  When someone compliments me on a story I wrote, a blind date actually has all of his hair, and my skinny jeans zip up without a fight, that phrase embodies the confidence you gain in your late twenties and early thirties.  However, when your boss utters the words, “pay freeze,” the cute guy with hair goes MIA, and you’ve taken to wearing leggings EVERYWHERE, “thirty, flirty, and thriving” can feel like nothing more than a line in a Jennifer Garner movie (albeit my favorite Jennifer Garner movie).

Q: What part of your “redo-berty” or “thrisis” is personally hardest for you?

A: You know how when one area of your life is going great, another one is falling to pieces?  Well, I feel good baout what I’ve accomplished so far in my prfessional life and I’m thrilled that I achieved my goal of publishing three books by 30.  Now I’m ready to get married and be a mother and let’s just say that writing the relationship chapter of the book hit a little too freaking close to home!

Q: You and Jessica obviously have an amazing friendship, which is so important to have, and especially during the “thrisis.”  What did Jessica bring to the book and what did you bring to the book that makes you such a great team?

A: As Women’s Wear Daily put it in a feature on the two of us, “Lavinthal, all citified sorority girl in knee-high Michael Kors boots and honey-colored highlights, and the more cerebral, reserved, Rozler seem at first glance an unlikely pair, but it was these differences that drew them together.”  While this quote not-so-subtly implies that Jessica is the brains of this operation while I’m the, um, hair, we are actually more similar than people think.  For starters, we share a wildy inappropriate sense of humor and a love of pop culture.  Also, we’ve been writing together since we met as journalism students at Syracuse University so at this point we can literally finish each other’s (written) sentences.  However, Jessica is more patient, conscientious, and thoughtful than I am, which makes her not only an amazing writer, but a meticulous editor as well.  Plus, she lets me hog the spotlight.
