Birthday highlights and a Head Refresher

So I got my highlights touched up the other day at Nelson J Salon in Beverly Hills.  The color?  Amazing.  What’s even better is that they use Aveda’s specal dye that is bleach-free and 97% natural…I mean, I’ve been really into the whole “natural” thing lately and I have to say, I’m very happy with the results.  Nelson Chan, the owner, was extremely nice and even took the time to show me how to use hot rolllers which, ironically, I’ve never used.  Hot rollers are a lot better for your hair, and especially if you have extensions, like I do at the moment.

If you’re in the LA area, I definitely say stop into Nelson J and ask for the Head Refresher, which is what originally caught my eye at this salon. This unique service includes Aveda’s 99% natural hair gloss, a relaxing rosemary and mint-oil scalp and head massage, along with a signature Nelson J blow out.
“This Aveda hair gloss is wonderful because it makes hair very shiny and also refreshes hair color for up to two months,” Chan says.  “Plus clients get into a state of bliss with the Aveda rosemary and mint-oil applied to their scalp combined with the relaxing head massage.”

Good news- the Head Refresher is on sale now until April 1st for only $49!  It usually goes for $100.  🙂

Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara

So I’ve always been a total mascara junkie but I’ve always been hesitant to put mascara on my bottom lashes…until now.  I’ve seen makeup artists do this, and do it well, but it was always one of those things you just have to leave to the professionals.  Well Clinique swooped in and solved this problem with their new Bottom Lash Mascara.

According to a survey that Clinique conducted, 80% of women said their mascara brush was either too fat, too long or curved the wrong way to apply to bottom lashes- sounds about right.  But it’s not just as simple as making a smaller brush.  Clinique’s Bottom Lash Mascara uses a thermal active formula that lasts for up to 24 hours with out smudging or smearing (thank god) and is also flake-resistant.  Also, it’s only $10…can’t beat that.

What to do when your nephew loves sharks

So it’s not easy living 3,000 mies away from your adorable 2-year-old nephew who is growing bigger (and cuter) by the minute.  When I was back in New York for Christmas I brought Mark this crazy cute shark bath robe (below) and he immediately started screaming “On! On!  Put it on!” and then proceeded to run around the house going “grrrrrrrrrr, I’m a shark!” to everyone who crossed his path.  It was probably the cutest thing I’ve ever seen so when I had the chance to shop at The Children’s Place again, I snapped up the chance and, luckily, they had even BETTER shark gear this time around.

These shark swim trunks were a surprising favorite for little Mark.  He saw them and had a similar reaction to the bath robe back in December.  He wore them all day and, mind you, it’s still freezing in New York.  He begged to go swimming and settled for swimming in the bath tub before bed time.

And as for my personal favorite, that would be the shark hooded towel.  I mean, seriously.  I can’t wait to see Mark running around the pool and the beach with this awesome outdoor version of the bath robe below.  He can even put his hands in the little grey fins so it’s almost a cape.  I’m dying…and who would’ve thought the day would come when I would be excited to see children’s clothes? Ha.

Jewelry Obsession: Haute Betts

So I’m iffy about the new movie Beastly (coming out on Friday) but if there’s one thing I’m not iffy about, it’s the jewely line Haute Betts, which Vanessa Hudgen’s wears in the new flick.  I’m totally obsessed with the “Gypsetter” collection which is a mixture of jewels with the old-fashioned camp style bracelet that I used to make back in the day.  It’s like childhood memory chic!  The Haute Betts line is known around Hollywood as a mixture of bohemian and rock n’ roll and has a ton of celeb fans like Ashlee Simpson, Katie Cassidy and Annalynne McCord and, of course, Vanessa Hudgens.

Vanessa stopped by the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills and met with Heather Betts, the designer, for a private preview of the Beastly Collection and the collection even features a “Lindy” bracelet, which is a one-of-a-kind piece created especially for the film and Vanessa’s character in the movie, Lindy.

Sponsored Post: Spa Breaks

So I’ve been in the midst of planning my best friend’s crazy New York City night out bachelorette party…and then she told me she wants to go to a spa, by the beach.  Great, good to know!  I immediately switched over to my new mission of finding the coolest, trendiest spa that the Jersey shore has to offer, which seems like it might get pretty difficult.  I never realized how hard it is to find a good spa outside your area until this moment…then I came across Spa Breaks.  Granted, it’s for the United Kingdom and doesn’t include U.S. cities but I’m totally melting over their robust selection of spas and even more so, their easy way to navigate around and search.

Let’s face it, spa days are the best days but if you can’t find the right spa for you, it’s pretty pointless.  I’m loving the spa weekend options so much that I might even suggest a quick trip across the pond to my friend as an alternate to the Jersey shore…and what an amazing alternate that would be, ha.
