The Neil George Salon

So I’ve blogged time and time again about how I am on the constant quest to achieve the perfect blonde highlights…well, I may have found them at the Neil George Salon.  I was lucky enough to have the brilliant Amanda George take a whirl at making my hair as golden as possible, with out it falling out, obviously.  I had a 10:30AM appointment on a Saturday and when I walked in, the place was packed.  “Who goes to the salon at the crack of dawn on a Saturday,” I thought.  Well, I suppose 10:30 isn’t the actual crack of dawn…and then when I saw how amazing the staff was, I totally understood.  The Beverly Hills salon services many of Hollywood’s celebs and was created by the British duo, Amanda George and Neil Weisberg.  After Amanda gave me brilliant highlights, Neil cut my hair in that way that only a real professional does- he looked at my hair, ruffled it around a bit and just began cutting instinctually.  I love watching genius in action and I especially love watching someone do what they love, which Amanda and Neil both obviously do.

It’s been about a month since my appointment and the color and cut still look amazing.  Very impressed over here, ladies.

Thierry Mugler Womanity

So I’m definitely not perfume-obsessed but when I received samples of Thierry Mugler’s newest launch, Womanity, I have to say…I’m kind of obsessed.  I’ve said time and time again how I’m a big sucker for pretty packaging and Womanity is a sick mix of feminine sexuality, plus a little hard metal, for good measure.  My faves are the Shower Gel and the Eau de Parfum Refill Bottle, perfect for traveling.  The fragrance is beautiful an intoxicating – notes of fig, caviar and wood leaf.

The collection is available this August at ThierryMugler.com and also check out Womanity.com, the company’s manifesto, signed my Thierry Mugler, inviting women to discover and contribute via an interactive platform.

Penny auctions- all the rage this summer

So anyone who knows me, knows that I’m a gambing lady and lucky for me, I recently started consulting for a pretty awesome new website that let’s me do just that.  The site is called BidCactus.com and yes, it is just as awesome as it looks.  If you aren’t familiar, penny auction bidding in pretty much competitive shopping which, as we all know, women are a-mazing at.  The prizes are all insanely ridiculous (and there are over 90,000) – TVs, laptops, gift cards, etc. and really…if I win anything for less than it’s actually woth, it’s a win-win.  Mama’s got her eye on a new flat screen, that’s ALL I’m saying.

Clairol Nice ‘n Easy Mirror Moments campaign

So you all know I’m a sucker for a beauty company that incorporates charity into their campaigns.  Angela Kinsey, who also plays “Angela” on The Office, played Nice ‘n Easy’s “Guardian Girlfriend” (aka Gigi), and actually stood in New York City’s Grand Central Station last week to surprise those who passed by via an interactive mirror.  Hilarious.  This is why I miss New York, people.  When women (and some men!) stopped to check out their reflection, Angela magically appeared to give them hair color feedback and tips.  Shock therapy anyone?  I can only imagine the crazy reactions that people had.

Naturally, Clairol compiled all the amazing reactions into a video.  DUH.  Bonus?  Each time the video is shared, Nice ‘n Easy will donate $1 to Dress for Success (up to $50,000) and they’ll also donate their product to the charity to help women look their best.  You really can’t beat a ridiculous video and charity.

Also, make sure to read my good friend Aly’s review of the campaign…um, does she not look just like Angela?!

4th of July beauty

So it’s America’s holiday- the 4th of July.  Even though I’m notorious for having catastrophically awful July 4ths, I’m still feeling some 4th of July beauty.  Hey, if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em, right?  America, f–k yeah.

Farmhouse Fresh Bourbon Bubbler Body Scrub -This scrumptious body scrub uses real Kentucky whiskey, brown sugar, vitamin E and rice bran oil to exfoliate your body clean.  It’s especially good for helping self-tan lotions to stick on.

JASON Naturals Quit Bugging Me! Natural Insect Repellant Spray -Truth be told, Los Angeles doesn’t have many bugs…but back in New York, you can’t leave the island of Manhattan unless you’re armed with some insect repellant.  I remember my mom dousing me with other chemical versions and always hating the smell and feeling sticky and gross.  JASON’s version is a natural alternative to harsh chemical bug repellants and uses a natural combo of Geranium, Soybean and Coconut Oils that not only keep bugs from biting but also leaves your skin feeling soft and smooth.  Plus, it’s DEET, PABA and Paraben-free.  And the bottle is adorable, just sayin…

Jane Iredale Powder-Me SPF 30 Dry Sunscreen – The all-over face and body powder helps to protect against both UVA and UVB rays with an SPF 30 and even has a water-resistant rating.  Skin Cancer Foundation approved, this sunblock is a physical, not chemical, block that works instantly in the sun.  As an added bonus, the packaging has a mirror on the cap so you can check yourself out, while applying your sun protection.

Sonia Kashuk Self-Tanning Towelettes for Body – I’m a serial self-tanner and I’ve tried it ALL.  I love the easy convenience of these towelettes…they’re great for traveling or even a quickie job or touch up.  The color is natural and the infamous self-tanner smell is barely there.

Calvin Klein is re-making the little white dress from “Clueless”!

So if you didn’t already know, Clueless is one of my all-time favorite movies…so when I heard that Calvin Klein was remaking the little white dress from Cher’s date with Christian (who later turned out to be gay), I let out a little yelp of excitement.  Ilaria Urbinati, the co-owner of Confederacy, an LA boutique, met with Calvin Klein’s creative director, Francisco Costa, about stocking Calvin’s collection, he just so happened to make the very special, very specific request.  “I sort of geeked out on him, (explaining) how my formative-years love of Calvin Klein was partly basedon the little white minidress Alicia Silverstone wears in Clueless,” Urbanati told InStyle.com.  “I need you to remake the dress!”  Apparently, he didn’t need much convincing…they got their hand on the original pattern and  re-created it exclusively for Confederacy.  The dress is available in the original white that Cher wore and in red.  My god, I can seriously hear the entire scene in my head…

Mel: Cher, what’s that?

Cher: It’s a dress, Daddy.

Mel: Says who?

Cher: Calvin Klein.

Mel: It looks like underwear.  Put something over it.

Oh, if I only had $915…
