Reader Question: Help! My hands are super chapped!

Q: Hi Jamie, I live in New York and for some reason, this winter has wreaked havoc on my hands.  Can you recommend a good moisturizer that’s also easy to carry around?  you rock!  A

A: Hi A!  Great question and I have only one answer for you.  Aquaphor Healing Ointment from Eucerin.  Seriously, this is the only product that actually really keeps my dry skin moisturized.  I actually just used half a tube of this stuff while I was home in New York for the holidays!  You can use it on your hands but I actually love it for my lips and the skin around my nostrils as well (which get super dry from the sniffles).  It comes in a big tub or in a small travel tube so you can keep one at home and carry the tube around with you.  Hope this helps you- let me know!

xo, Jamie

Three questions with Tory Burch

So I’m practically giddy right now.  I had the pleasure of meeting Tory Burch a few months back when she held a breakfast at her Meatpacking District store in NYC.  She’s even more lovely than I could’ve imagined and quite inspiring as well.  I loved hearing all about how she gets inspired by her travels (especially Venice- my favorite city ever) and how she got started and plans to grow her business.  Enter 2010.  I’ve decided that 2010 will be my year to finally accomplish some of my long-term goals that I’ve been kind of putting around for the last few years and being a major procrastinator.  I’m living in LA now (on my own!) and I find that I meet some many interesting, passionate people that I made the decision to dedicate the occasional blog post to people worthy of all our time.  Tory is one of those people that you need to get to know.  As a woman, mother and entrepreneur I’m very excited to get Tory’s take on advice, career and her biggest guilty pleasure.

If you could give your 24-year-old self any advice, what would it be?

Beauty-related, I would tell my younger self to never leave the house without moisturizer with SPF.  I wear Pat Wexler’s Tinted Moisturizer now.

What do you love most about your career?

I’m lucky enough to have a day job I feel passionately about.  Every day I’m surrounded by the most creative people, both design-wise and business-wise.

What is your biggest guilty pleasure?

I have a soft spot for fresh beignets.  Heavy on the powdered sugar.

Thanks, Tory!  For even more, follow Tory on Twitter!

TouchBack gray hair marker

So I’m not very happy admitting this but I have some gray hair.  I’ve been randomly finding them since I was in middle school but now they’ve deciced to clump together a bit on one side of my hairline.  It’s fun.  Even though everyone tells me that it’s not noticable (thanks to my light blonde hair color), I ALWAYS notice it and it drives me nutso AND the grays tend to grow in a bit thicker so they stick out even more!  UGH.  Anyway, I was lucky enough to try out the TouchBack marker specifically designed for gray hairs.  I tried out the lightest blonde shade that they offer, Golden Blonde, and even though it was a bit darker than expected, it definitely did the job.  Every morning for a week I washed and blow dryed my hair as usual and then applied the TouchBack using the little comb that combs with it – which prevents the dye from getting on your scalp and helps separate the hair so that you can see all the grays that you want to cover.  I LOVE this and it’s really a great option for when you’re trying to stretch out the time in between root touch-ups.

Taking my very first bubble bath in years

So I was talking to my friend Kelley on the phone the other night and she told me that she was tired and just wanted to take a bubble bath.  A bubble bath?  What a novel concept.  I can’t even remember the last time I took a bubble bath but something tells me that it was in High School, which was the last time that I would consider my tub clean enough to rest my bare bum on it.  In college, bubble baths are out of the question and up until now, I’ve always had roommates where I’d feel a little bad hogging the bathroom for that long (I mean when you’ve gotta pee, you’ve gotta pee, right?).

I started thinking about what I have in my apartment to create a peaceful scene and I think I did quite well.  I used Philosophy’s Chocolate Chip Cookies Shampoo, Shower Gel & Bubble Bath as super luxurious bubble maker that also curbs my cookie cravings.  I then lit my Diptyque Roses candle, which is one of my favorite scents, and the combo of chocolate and roses is pretty much nirvana in my book.  After relaxing for a bit in the tub, I then put on my comfy Soft Hugwear Spa Wrap so that I could dry off a bit with out putting my clothes back on.  Ah, a great day.  I think I’ll be doing this again soon.
