Jade Goody- Another Example Why You Should Get the HPV Vaccine

So unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you’ve heard about Jade Goody’s untimely death at the age of 27. Jade died of cervical cancer, a completely preventable and curable form of cancer, if caught in time. According to this article on DailyFinance, “British reality TV star Jade Goody’s public battle with cervical cancer may seem distasteful. But it will probably help save lives. Pap tests to screen for cervical cancer in young women have reportedly increased 20 percent in Britain since Goody announced that she was terminally ill in August (she died this week at age 27).” In my opinion, it’s a sad, sad day when a mother won’t give her daughter a vaccine that has proven to be the biggest cancer breakthrough in a DECADE because she fears that it might encourage her to be promiscuous and have pre-marital sex. I can’t speak for young girls, but as someone who has completed all three shots in the series, I can say that I’m a strong avocate of the vaccine and I just can’t understand why any mother (or anyone for that matter) would be against protecting themself from this life threating disease. 27 is too young and maybe if the HPV vaccine had been around a few years earlier, it could’ve prevented Jade’s death.

Airport Chic

So I’m slightly embarrassed to admit this but every time I go to the airport I like to pretend that I’m famous by wearing over-sized sunglasses and keeping my head down and/or behind a magazine. Am I the only one who gets some serious s&g’s over this? You’d be surprised how many foreigners and southern tourists give me strange looks…

Aside from that, how is that all celebs look so chic while gearing up to fly from LA to NY, NY to LA or somewhere even cooler? I saw this post on Who What Wear and it got me thinking…plus, airport celeb spotting are the best cause they literally have nowhere to hide. My dad saw Paris Hilton on a plane from LA to New York one time and said the whole plane was freaking out. He, of course, had no idea who she was until someone told him.

Rihanna’s “Bang Bang” Tattoo

So I can’t decide whether or not I think this gun tattoo is cool OR if I’m actually offended by it? Is that strange? I’m very anti-guns and I think it definitely sets a bad tone for someone who is supposed to be a “role model” for young kids and teenagers. However, there’s also something slightly bad ass about the spot she chose…and that it’s a tiny little weapon.

Thoughts?

If Rihanna DOES decide she ever wants to cover it, CoverBlend by Exuviance makes a great cover up…and it has SPF to boot.

Tory Burch Jellies?!

So when I was a little girl, I was completely obsessed with jellies. In the last few years, they’ve made their comeback over and over again but I just can’t seem to find a pair that I feel are “adult” enough for my 26 year old self to actually pull off. I’m undecided on these Tory Burch Jellies. Grown up, they certainly are…however, at $95 a pair…eh. I dunno. I also don’t know if I even like the whole plastic Tory Burch crest thing over my plastic ballet flat. Who knows…maybe I just need to buckle down and realize that you can’t re-live the past and my lone green jelly is STILL sitting somewhere at the bottom of the Long Island sound…

Renée Rouleau Toning Cloths

So in the last month, I went through like two gigantic bags of cotton balls. Just not right! I’m definitely someone who fills guilty every time she doesn’t recycle or throws away paper bags, so when I came across these Renee Rouleau Toning Cloths, I just couldn’t help myself. Not only do they come 160 in a box (for $10.50) but they use a soft blend soft blend of fibers to absorb 50% less and eliminate product waste, while feeling soft and gentle on the skin.

Along with eliminating product waste, Renée Rouleau has decided to GO GREEN in packaging the Toning Cloths. The carton is made with 100% Recycled Paperboard. Recycled paperboard is made from 100% recovered paper that has been diverted from the solid waste stream and then collected, separated, cleaned and recycled for use! The Toning Cloths are a multi-use product and can be also be used for nail polish removal, cleaning jewelry, etc. Two thumbs up.

Glow in the Dark with Jergens and Rachel Bilson

So if there’s one thing I’m absolutely passionate about, it’s sun safety. I lost my favorite Aunt to Melanoma when she was only 43 years old and it’s still so confusing to me why people still go to tanning salons and pour baby oil on their skin to sit outside after all of the facts that we know about the sun! Anyway, Jergens has a new campaign with everyone’s favorite ex-OCer, Rachel Bilson.

The self-tanning power brand has teamed up for the second year in a row with the Skin Cancer Foundation to help women start facing the facts and change their bad sun habits! To join Rachel and others in the crusade, visit www.jergens.com and pledge to get your glow…in the DARK. For every pledge, Jergens will donate $1 to the Skin Cancer Foundation (minimum of $10,000 and maximum $20,000).

The campaign runs now through August 31st so please spread the word!
