NYE in Bermudaaaaa!

So I know it’s a bit early to start thinking about New Year’s Eve but I’m completely obsessed and excited that I booked a trip to Bermuda to ring in 2009. Since most of my friends are “couples” right now, I couldn’t bear the thought of buying a $200 ticket to some lame NYC bar that I’d get into for free any other day of the week. But I digress, I just found out the Bermuda is considered one of the “classier” Caribbean islands (and apparently very English) so I’m going to need more than flip flops and a Juicy tube dress to ring in 2009. I’m picturing something like Kristen Bell’s outfit at the Teen Choice Awards this year…it’s fun but bright and trendy…yet also a bit daring. Suggestions are greatly appreciated…

The Rules of Makeup

So I have this problem…I am a total and complete pack rat. On top of that, I frequently develop weird attachments to random objects, ha, I know. Anyway, this also includes makeup. I still have the first Clinque lipstick I bought so I could get the free gift with purchase, my first Mary Kay eye palette and the strawberry flavored Chapstick that my deceased Aunt bought me in Montauk…probably about 15 years ago. GROSS. Please don’t follow my lead. Experts say the following:

Eyeliner: Toss after about 3 years

Eye Shadow: Kept dry, powders can stay for up to 3 years

Lipstick/lipgloss: Time for garbage after 2 years

Mascara: 4 months max so watch it

Subway Grooming is NOT Ok.

So as one of the thousands (millions?) of NYCers that commutes via the subway five days a week, I have a plea that could possibly make my 15 minute ride on the 6 train just a little less painful. I was reading Glamour’s Beauty Blog and I noticed that someone else, Fiorella (formerlly of Nylon), has also made her plea to not, gasp, CLIP YOUR NAILS on public transportation. For me, I didn’t even like doing this in front of my college roommate freshman year, so I can’t possibly even begin to understand why anyone would do this in public. I feel Fiorella’s pain. I get grossed out enough when I see someone putting on face powder or mascara- hello! what if the train suddenly jolts and you poke your eye out?! UGH! So anyway, please refrain from doing this on the subway…or at least in front of me (and Fiorella).

P.S.- How hard would you die if you saw Lilo and Sam Ronson on the subway?

NARS Combines Sex and Makeup

So I literally LOL’d when I saw this on one of my favorite beauty blogs, BeautyAddict. I mean, you’ve gotta appreciate the edginess that NARS is pushing here…plus, I’m always an advocate of safe sex! Basically this is a win-win situation since you get TWO “designer” conoms AND the cult NARS Multiple in the cult favorite shade, Orgasm. I also love the name “Safer Set.”

Jem: Truly Outrageous (Halloween Costume)

So I’m kind of in love with this Jem costume idea I saw on BellaSugar.com. I mean, who didn’t think Jem was “truly outrageous” when they were growing up in the 80s? Anyway, you can easily be Jem for Halloween with the right pink wig and pink face makeup. The video on BellaSugar is kind of unnecessarily long (and super cheesy) but it has a few good tips for how to do the pink stars around your eyes! AND I even found a great Jem outfit…oh and they have one of the Misfit outfits too! UGH, memories…

Bumble & Bumble Early Bird Blow-dry

So apparently the early bird actually DOES catch the worm…or so they say. I’ve NEVER been an early riser but I’m kind of in love with this new service that Bumble & Bumble is offering…it’s called The Early Bird Blow-dry and it’s absolutely genius. Bumble & Bumble Uptown (146 E. 56th st.) will now be open weekdays at 7:30am for anyone who wants a quick blow out before work or a big event. They even serve breakfast and coffee for those who arrive before 9:30. Genius, pure genius.
