Because it’s summer and these are the best sunscreens that you’re guaranteed to love…
This post is long overdue but, if you follow me on Instagram, then you know why. I do still plan on writing about my dad’s sudden death but I’m not quite there just yet. That said, I’m VERY EXCITED that my annual sunscreen blog post is here and, gotta say, I think it’s my best one yet 🙂 Every year I test out the newest and most innovative sunscreen launches (there are typically a bunch of good ones), and these 11 made my cut this year. If you want to check out my previous favorites post, please do- I still stand behind all of them!
But without any further ado…
Here are sunscreens you’re guaranteed to love.
Best bang for your buck SPF
Skin To You Sun Sealed Delivered Facial Moisturizer SPF 30: You don’t typically see face SPF in a bottle this big and, aside from having a great, melts-into-your skin formula, I especially love the $15 price tag. Btw, you can totally also use this on your body.
Best CBD Sunscreen
W!NK CBD Sunscreen SPF 30: When I got an email pitch for a sunscreen that’s CBD-infused, I knew I had to try it. My CBD balm obsession is big right now, so the idea that you can protect your skin from the sun AND get the effects of CBD seemed liked heaven. Truth be told, I actually didn’t expect to like the formula as much as I do – it is FANTASTIC. It goes on smooth, absorbs quickly and doesn’t get all over my purse like so many sunscreens do, haha. I confirmed the formula is broad spectrum (a MUST) and it’s free of mineral oils and other pore-clogging ingredients.
Best Oil SPF
Bum Bum Sol Oil SPF 30: This illuminating, non-greasy dry oil is definitely a new favorite. Don’t worry- it’s not as glittery as it looks and the formula is packed with acai oil and coconut oil for the ultimate antioxidant and hydration power punch. It’s also infused with illuminating skin-smoothers and scented with the cult favorite fragrance, Cheirosa ’62 which I do believe smells amazing.
Best new SPF launch
Dermalogica Prisma Protect SPF 30: I’m giving the award for overall best new SPF launch to this new light-activated moisturizer from Dermalogica (love). Not only does it provide all-day hydration and SPF 30, but it also protects against pollution, and UV, infrared, and blue light (aka my new worst skincare nightmare).
Best mineral SPF for face
REN Clean Screen Mattifying Mineral Face Sunscreen SPF 30: This mattifying, all-clean mineral sunscreen is one of the cleanest (ingredient-wise) sunscreens on the market. Non-nano naturally derived zinc oxide offers broad spectrum protection/protection against blue light rays, while passion fruit extract, known for its antioxidant properties, supports the skin’s natural defense against free radicals. Rice starch leaves the skin mattified, making sure your sunscreen stays put, even on oily skin…but also great for dry skin like mine.
Best mineral SPF for Body (and also face!)
La Roche Posay Mineral Anthelios Body & Face SPF 50: La Roche Posay’s sunscreen is infamously great and this new Anthelios Mineral Sunscreen is a gentle lotion with SPF 50 that can be used as a body sunscreen AND a face sunscreen. It’s water-resistant up to 80 minutes, super lightweight and, unlike a lot of other mineral sunscreens, it doesn’t leave a white film (the worst). If you’re looking for a dual face/body SPF, this one is a GREAT bet.
Best drugstore SPF
Neutrogena HydroBoost SPF 50: You’ve seen me talk about the Neutrogena HydroBoost SPF a bunch on my blog; I brought it with me to Thailand and was NOT disappointed. Why is it so great? It has a water-light feel and, true story, whenever someone DMs me or I hear “I hate wearing sunscreen because it’s so heavy and greasy,” I always recommend this specific SPF. It’s the opposite of both of those things and truly feels like you’re applying some fancy AF lotion on your bod. I hesitated to even call it “best drugstore SPF” because that implies it’s not as good as a fancy SPF and that’s just not the case; the formula is just as good (if not better) than a lot of expensive sunscreens that I’ve tried.
Best scalp SPF
Supergoop Poof 100% Mineral Part Powder SPF 45: I did this blog post on why you need SPF on your scalp back in January and then, sure enough, Supergoop came in for the win and launched this innovative mineral version with SPF 45! I will say it does leave a slight white residue, so if your hair is super dark definitely use it sparingly. Other than that, it does an amazing job of not only protecting your scalp from burning but it also gently absorbs excess oil in the case your hair is a little greasy.
Best stick SPF
Shiseido WetForce Clear Stick UV Protector SPF 50+: Shiseido is another sunscreen favorite brand and I got really into their WetForce stick this year. The clear stick SPF works under AND over makeup (yep, big time), and is great for sun protection on-the-go.
Best tinted SPF
Avene Eau Thermale Tinted Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50+: This 100% mineral SPF is my go-to for when I don’t want to wear any makeup; it gives you just the right amount of tint to cover any redness I have in my face (hi, rosacea) but also protects my face with a super strong SPF 50. The size is also perfect for travel!
Best high-end SPF
Lancer Sheer Fluid Sun Shield SPF 30: I’m only newly introduced to Dr. Lancer’s products but I’ve been nothing but impressed so far. His lightweight sunscreen gives you a super luxe formula that’s not greasy at all, yet really hydrating and smooth. It also works really well as a makeup primer!
