I heard some delightful news today! MAC Cosmetics partnered with nine beauty bloggers, (including friends like Amber, Lianne, Karen and Christine), to create their own eyeshadow or lipglass, which are being sold exclusively online. Personally, I’m way into pretty much the entire blogger collaboration collection but I’m most looking forward to Christine’s “Jealousy Wakes,” which is this crazy green eyeshadow that looks like St. Patrick’s Day and Karen’s “Evolution Revolution,” which is a pretty pinky peach lipglass. The collection will be available on MacCosmetics.com only starting June 21.

Yeah, I’m way behind on my blogging but with the recent news of Kim Kardashian’s engagement, I was reminded that I never did my post on the fabulous launch party for Midori Melon and ShoeDazzle’s VIP Trunk Shows, hosted by Kim K herself. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a SoleSociety Fashion Insider but this girl definitely has room in her heart for as many awesome shoe clubs as possible. ShoeDazzle, co-founded by Kim, has really stepped up their game with some super cute heels, all of which the cocktail waitresses carried around with the Midori drinks. Sydne and I stalked the shoes before heading over to SoHo House to meet our friend Kristen.

I have a very long list of “things to do” in Los Angeles and Catalina Island has been at the top of that list since I moved to LA in September 2009. My friend Nadine Jolie came up with the plan to camp out on the island as part of a P&G Beauty Challenge that she’s doing and I was thrilled to jump on the band wagon and tag along when she offered. It’s crazy that such a beautiful little island is only a one hour ferry ride away from LA!

Ah, graduation. I just got back from a quick weekend trip to New York and during my visit, I visited my friend Vanessa at Hofstra, my alma mater. Vanessa lives in an apartment on campus as a professional resident director which, in my opinon, is totally bitter sweet. I would’ve killed to be able to stay in college and live that lifestyle for a few extra years but at this point, at 28 (or 29 for V), she’s started calling the students “the kids” and says she feels like an old woman around them. I totally get it. And, I digress. It was nice to visit Hofstra, a place that I still consider to be the happiest four years of my adult life, but I’ve definitely moved past that point and I think I’ve finally let go a bit and realized that my memories there are mine and they’ll last forever or as long as I want them to.
Cheesy rant aside, this got me thinking about graduation gifts. Of course, money will always be the number one gift of choice but I’ve also come up with a few more creative gifts that any grad would be thrilled to receive.
David’s Cookies Cookie of the Month Club: Um, I can’t think of anything more exciting than getting a new batch of delicious cookies mailed to me every month. In fact, I’m thinking about gifting this to myself.
Wine Grape Bosai Tree: This is both a challenge and entertainment. I’ve always had a hard time keeping plants alive and since this plant actually grows wine grapes, it would be fun to see if I can get the grapes to actually grow.
“Thrilled For You!” Wine: No card necessary. I love that the bottle expresses exactly what you want to say…and what college graduate doesn’t love wine?
Tory Burch business card holder: Getting a little profesh here. I love Tory’s business card holders and if any entry-level candidate whipped out one of these on an interview, I’d be super impressed.
I’m the first to admit that I give organic skincare the side-eye. It’s not that I don’t want to believe in it but it’s more the fact that I’m constantly reading about skincare lines that are not organic that work wonders. With that said, every once in awhile I come across an absolutely amazing organic product that completely blows my mind and hence, I need to share.
As my readers know, I have dry facial skin and am always on the hunt for the next amazing miracle product that’s gonna keep my hydrated and dewy. I tried out Melvita Hydrastim (I also like saying “Hydrastim” a lot) and oh boy, was I impressed. The moisturizer lasted a realllly long time and is also shown to help reduce expression lines and give a fuller, smoother and firmer appearance. Being that I’m now 28, this is a total bonus for me. The gel, a form I’m always a fan of, combines aloe vera, hyaluronic acid and various other botanicals a remarkable hydro-regulating effect, keeping skin at its ideal moisture level.
I’m also loving the back story behind Melvita; the line was started in 1977 by a biologist named Bernard Chevilliat who developed Melvita based on ingredients from a beehive.
