Oral-B with Brooke Burke and Operation Smile breakfast

So I was recently invited to a breakfast hosted by Oral-B with Brooke Burke and Operation Smile at Cecconi’s in West Hollywood.  I’ll put this out there, I’m so not a breakfast person…which is really just because I’m so not a morning person BUT when I was offered the chance to do a quick solo interview with Brooke and get a delish breakfast at Cecconi’s, I just couldn’t say no.

Oral-B teamed up with Brooke Burke and Operation Smile to announce that they would be donating $25,000 to Operation Smile, which is a worldwide children’s charity that provides free surgeries for children with cleft lips and cleft palates.  Now not only is this an amazingly generous donation, but Oral-B is also providing a pretty hefty rebate to customers who buy their electric toothbrushes in honor of this new movement.

I was also really interested to learn a litttle more about dental health as well.  I’ve been using the Oral-B ProfessionaCare 3000 that was in the event gift bag and I’ll be honest- I LOVE it.  My dentist told me just last month that I should consider using an electric toothbrush (and not the kind I had been using that takes 1 AA battery and costs like $10 at the drugstore).  I kind of scoffed…mainly because I’m lazy and then took this invite as a sign that the teeth gods want me to have less plaque in my life.

According to Oral-B, the rechargeable oscillating rotating toothbrush can help remove up to 100% more plaque than a regular manual toothbrush and also gets in deep between the teeth and along the gum line for a thorough clean, which helps prevent gingivitis.  Gross.  The brush I’ve been using retails for $99.99 but after the mail-in rebate, it’s really only $49.99.  Not a bad price for clean teeth, my friends.

Stay tuned for my “Three Questions With” Brooke Burke interview this week…

Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic Los Angeles

So yesterday Nadine, Lindsay and I went to the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic Los Angeles.  For those of you who don’t know, Nadine is somewhat of a polo expert and when I heard about this (free) event, I was super excited and even more excited to go with someone who can actually explain what’s going on to me. Before yesterday my knowledge of polo came from “Pretty Woman” as a result of the one scene where Julia Roberts and Richard Gere go to a polo match and they stomp the divets while Julia wears a perfectly 90s brown dress with white polka dots.  I imagined a similar scene…minus the polka dot brown dress, obvs.

The match was in the Pacific Palisades, which, I never even knew existed.  Amazing.  I love when that happens.  It’s this like magical little town at the top of a mountain in Santa Monica…who knew?  Anywho, we had to wait a bit at Will Rogers Beach for the shuttles to get us and bring us up to the match since there wasn’t enough parking at the top of the hill.  Nadine and I went right for the champers as soon as we got inside and sat under the lovely Veuve Clicquot umbrellas to watch the match.

I have to admit, I still don’t know much about polo but I do know that I support any sport with hot men, horses and daytime drinking.  You can come to expect more stories from my adventures in polo sometime in the near future.

The InStyler

So when I lived in New York, I was a slave to my flat iron.  It sucked.  Luckily now that I live in the dry, Califonia sunshine, I’m not quite the slave I used to be and I was really happy about it…until I discovered the InStyler.

My friend Sydne used her InStyler before we went out a few months back and when I heard the odd noise coming from her bathroom, I was like “uhh, what the hell is that?”  She told me about how it’s better than a flat iron because while it does straighten and de-frizz your hair, it doesn’t take out the volume and shine like most regular flat irons do.  The InStyler iron lies in its rotating heated polishing cylinder and basically gently glides over your hair, polishing, straightening, and styling each strand.  The second set of bristles puts the finishing touches, leaving you with shiny, silky locks…that still have plenty of body and volume.

The claim is that you can do your full style in 8 minutes…but I can now do it in 5, after a little practice.  The website also has several how-to videos in case you’re a little nervous or unsure when you first try it out.  Definitely obsessed.

Sponsored Post: The Conversation

So lately I’ve been on a book-reading binge, no joke.  I recently devoured Tucker Max’s new book, Assholes Finish First, and I also re-read all three of Chelsea Handler’s books…this is what I do.  I go through reading phases and now I’ve moved onto an awesome new book written by Hill Harper, one of the hottie’s from “CSI.”

The Conversation: How Men and Women Can Build Loving, Trusting Relationships is a book that I might not have normally picked up, but I have to say, I really enjoyed Harper’s insight into building a long-lasting relationship with someone.  God knows that I’m certainly no relationship expert and I’ve made more than my fair share of mistakes so for me, it’s always worthwile and interesting to hear someone else’s point of view on the subject.

He starts off by saying how you must find a love for yourself before you can find a fulfilling relationship, which is completely obvious but then he goes on to discuss, what he calls, AFI (Attraction , Friendship, Intimacy).  He feels that you need AFI in order to have a healty relationship and what happens is that many men and women go from A to I and then try to deal with F later on, which makes it hard for the relationship to last.

Another thought that caught my attention was what Harper says to look for in a mate.  “People tend to look for status in a mate when they should be looking for potential.”  Harper goes on to even use Barack and Michelle Obama as the perfect example, (President Obama was afriend of Harper’s from Harvard Law School!).  Apparently Obama was “nowhere near” Michelle’s level when they first got together.  She also happened to be the breadwinner (insane) for the first several years of their relationship and, I even learned that 70% of professional Black women are unmarried.  Now I don’t feel so bad about being single at 27.  Very interesting all in all.

Foot Petals, to save my feet!

So I’m so not a heels girl.  I’m 5’6 and I’m also a New Yorker so yeah, heels have never really been a big part of my life…until I moved to LA.  Not that anyone is any taller here (believe me, they’re not) but since people drive everywhere, it’s much easier to go out and where heels for a longer period of time.  This is where Foot Petals come into my life, thank god.

I’ve recently bought a few new pairs of heels but have been hesitant to wear them since yeah, my feet still hurt…even with the driving.  I recently tried out the Tip Toes, which supports the ball of the foot, at the VMAs and I’m not kidding when I say, it was a life-saver.  Get a set for every pair of heels you own ASAP.

MyStyle 3-Way fashion videos

So I might be a little biased because the host of MyStyle.com’s new 3-Way web series is one of my besties…but I have to tell you, the new web series from MyStyle.com is pretty fabulous.  Sydne Summer takes you through the latest fashion trends and shows you how to wear them in a functional way.  First up?  How to wear flare denim.  I can remember when I first wore flare jeans…it had to be around 7th grade, and I loved every inch of them.  Flare jeans are super flattering and, according to Sydne and MyStyle, you can wear them to work, on the weekend and for a night on the town.  Make sure you check out MyStyle’s new web series for even more functional fashion tips.  LOVE.

Ralph Lauren Pink Pony 100 Bloggers Unite Against Cancer

So a few weeks ago, I was asked to participate in an amazing Ralph Lauren campaign called Pink Pony 100 Bloggers Unite Against Cancer.  I was super excited (and honored) to be included as one of the 100 bloggers and also super excited to help in the fight against cancer. For those who don’t know, the Pink Pony Fund was started in 2000 with a mission to reduce disparities in cancer care in medically underserved communities and ensure that treatment is available during the more curable stages.

This year Ralph Lauren is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Pink Pony campaign, quite an accomplishment, and it’s not just the blogger campaign that makes this news exciting.  There will be a luxury auction hosted on CharityBuzz..com that will run from October 1st until October 21st and 100% of the proceeds from the auction will benefit the Pink Pony Fund.  OR you can text to donate: PINKPONY to 501501 will automatically donate $10 to the cause.  AND, on October 3rd and 4th, 100% of all net proceeds received from Pink Pony product sold at Ralph Lauren stores and on RalphLauren.com will benefit the Pink Pony Fund.

Also check out AOL’s StyleList.com to see the other 99 bloggers model their Pink Pony T-shirt.
