So I’ve been a long-time fan of mark, which is why I was thrilled when I got the opportunity to speak with their lifestyle expert, Shannon Eis.
Confession: this video was my first Skype interview experience and thank god for the amazing mark PR team because if they didn’t walk me through it, I would’ve thrown my computer onto the 405 freeway.
If you’re not already familiar, mark is a younger, cooler version of Avon (where I worked right after college!) and was created to attract a new generation of customers and representatives. After speaking with Shannon, I learned all about how many college-aged girls are making tons of money just by selling cool stuff to their friends, which also helps build great business skills. Reps receive 30% commission on sales and, of course, enjoy discounts when they want something for themselves.
So I had the pleasure of attending a beauty press event for Liz Earle a few years back and I have to admit that after hearing her speak, I developed a small girl crush on the skincare mogul. Liz Earle products are smart, point and case. Each ingredient (nearly all fair-trade) are thought out and serve a unique purpose and really, what more can you ask for with your skincare products? Liz did me the honor of answering three questions which I happily share with you, my readers.
Q: What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own skincare line?
A: Know your subject inside and out, upside down and back again. There is so much of value to learn, and going into something without heaps of research and genuine knowledge is not a good idea. “Crawl, walk, run” is my motto and it basically means don’t rush anything and take your time to make sure that everything you do is right to everyone involved.
Q: If you could give your 24-year-old self any advice, what would it be?
A: I would tell myself to use a skincare routine which is simple, dependable and effective, and cleanse, tone and moisturize twice a day. Skincare should be a fuss-free pampering experience – and it shouldn’t cost the earth either. As a life-long sufferer of eczema, I had tried just about every skincare range on the market before co-founding the Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare range. If I could tell my 24-year-old self one more thing, it would be to use a skincare range packed with botanicals, herbs, plant oils and vitamins. (It’s a shame I don’t have a time machine!)
Q: What do you see as the next big trend in skincare?
A: An interesting trend that I have noticed developing momentum within the beauty industry is a focus on back to basics, high performance skincare. With an emphasis on cleanse, tone, moisturize, and a focus on products which offer double dosage properties. Many of our customers contact us to tell us that they love our range so much because our products are mult-purpose essentials. For example, our Cleanse & Polish removes every trace of makeup (even on the eye area), cleaning the skin and gently exfoliating all in one simple pump. I think multi-tasking skincare is going to continue to thrive.

So living the LA life, I’m pretty much always dressed for summer…which is still something to get used to coming from the east coast, let me tell you. It seems like I’m in a bikini at least once a week and it’s been causing major stress on my bikini line, as well as my mental state. I used to wax in college because I found this amazing, cheap little hole in the wall that would do a Brazilian for $25 (NO JOKE) but then after college, I got lazy and/or stopped caring as much since I was so busy working that I didn’t really even have time for the beach. Fast forward to LA 2010. I can’t even tell you how many times someone yells “let’s go to the hot tub” and I cringe and have to think “ugh, am I prepared for the hot tub right now?”
After complaining non-stop to Sydne, she finally talked me into trying out laser hair removal and ladies, I’m never looking back. Since I was also about to go to New York, I figured why not try out the famous Completely Bare Hi-Tech Spa, known for their laser hair removal and also happens to be near my old apartment (tear). My technician was FABULOUS. I was a litle freaked out because one, a stranger was about to look at my vajay and two, because well…lasers are scary!
My technician poured on globs of gel (kinda like Vaseline) and I prepared myself for the first laser snap to come. Not gonna lie…it was a bit shocking but mostly cause I just didn’t know what to expect. After the first few “snaps,” as I like to call them, you kinda just get used to the feeling and it doesn’t hurt so much after that. Overall the pain is WAY less than waxing so I think it totally worth it.
The results so far? I went about a week with ZERO hair growth, which I think is totally amazing after just ONE treatment (you usually need about 4-6 to see long-lasting results). I’m definitely going back from treatment number two in another three weeks.
So I was recently invited to a fun girls’ night out thrown by Nadine Jolie and sponsored by Caress. We all met at Nadine’s house and took a limo over to the W Hollywood to their rooftop club/bar, Drais. Once we got there, we were escorted over to our exclusive cabana bed by the pool where we got bottle service, mingled and danced the night away.
Our girls’ night out was probably one of the funnest nights I’ve had in awhile and, as an added bonus, I got the amazing Rebecca Minkoff Claudia dress that I’m wearing at Intermix on SALE for only $197 (marked down from $530)! Sydne and I were at the MAC store across the street for a press event so our makeup was already done (check) and I was stressing out about what I was going to wear. Sydne pulled the dress off the sale rack and demanded that I try it on, even though I was skeptical. Funny enough, I kept commenting that I felt like a Kardashian and Sydne informed me that a Kardashian never wore the dress…but Paris Hilton did. AND she wore it, ironically enough, at the Us Weekly Hot in Hollywood party held at Drais, which I also attended.
So who wore it better? LOL.

So I recently got the opportunity to go on an a-mazing press trip to Vegas (yes, LAS VEGAS) and check out the Monte Carlo Resort & Casino. Nadine and I road-tripped it down to Vegas on Saturday afternoon and then I flew back solo to LA on Sunday night (had to get back in time to attend the ThinkThruFashion Accessory Swap!). Here’s a run-down of what we did:
Saturday:
Got a tour of Las Vegas’ City Center- totally modern and Jetsons-like.
Dinner at Diablo’s Cantina in the Monte Carlo. I love me some Mexican food and it was great to meet the other bloggers and PR team over margaritas and guac.
A Vegas show- Frank Caliendo. We had the pleasure of a meet-and-greet with Frank before the show started and he had all of us cracking up. I admit I wasn’t familiar with Frank beforehand but the show was honestly hilarious. He specializes in impersonations and does a hilarious Clinton and George W. Bush.
After dinner the group all grabbed drinks and then Nadine and I went out and partied at EyeCandy in the Montego Bay hotel. This is where we also ran into another impersonator, the dude from “The Hangover.” Hilarity ensued.
Sunday:
After a crazy night, we slept in a bit and then headed down to our private cabana by the pool. When I say private, I mean seriously VIP…our area was completely gated off and when we had our own mini pool to swim in. Vegas in July can be seriously brutal but being in the cabana was complete heaven. We had flat screen TVs and a few sofas to lounge around in the shade. We ordered mimosas and chowed down on guacamole and watermelon vodka shooters. How can it get any better, right?
Once it got too hot to stay outside, we decided to try out our luck in the casino (my fave!). I’m strictly a Black Jack girl but decided that I need to expand into the world of Craps and Roulette. Unfortunately, luck wasn’t on my side this trip…but Nadine won a bit of spending money!
After I lost it all (or at least all I allowed myself to play with), we met up with the group again for a private tour of HOTEL32. The Monte Carlo adopted the slogan “Unpretentiously Luxurious,” and this proved to be completely true as we toured HOTEL32. With a seperate elevator, we arrived on the 32nd floor to be greeted by reception and were escorted into a lounge area where we were served cocktails and special appetizers. Seeing HOTEL32 has turned me into a total techie…I want to make everything in my apartment state-of-the-art now. If only I won some money on this trip, lol.

So I’m not a big fan of the boyfriend jeans but when it comes to the boyfriend sweatpants, I’m totally sold. My suitemate senior year of college had like 50 pairs of sweatpants from Victoria’s Secret Pink, all of which were completely adorable and were the perfect dorm appropriate loungewear when paired with a cute tank top and flip flops. I ended up buying two cropped pairs- one in turquoise blue and the other in a purplish/pink color.
Fast forward to five years later…both pairs pretty much destroyed, it was time for me to get a new pair. The 2010 version come in different cuts, people. I opted for the Boyfriend fit and I’m obsessed. Why do guys get the good sweatpants? They sit low on the hips and have big front pockets. I got the green version…and, yeah I got the grey leopard print tank top too. Love.
So, I, Jamie Stone, live in Hollywood. Hollywood has its douchey rep, sure, but you know what’s pretty awesome (besides my apartment and the Hollywood Roosevelt)? h.wood.beauty. Inspired by Hollywood’s h.wood Tea Room, h.wood.beauty is their first intro into cosmetics. Genius, isn’t it? Every cool night club should have their own lip product line cause, well, why not? The best part is that the products are inspired by the teas that they actually serve at Tea Room and use only the purest ingredients combined with healing essential oils. Lip products aside, h.wood Tea Room is LA’s secret Wednesday night hideaway that serves “prohibition teas” to Hollywood’s trendy people. Two thumbs up.
