So, I’ve been working furiously on an Iceland Travel Guide from my trip last week (as well as a few other posts as well) but, in the meantime, I got the chance to grill Kardashian hair stylist Jen Atkin at the BeautyWorks clip-In class with Mane University and, of course, immediately asked her to reveal exactly how to get a few of our all-time favorite Kardashian/Jenner looks. Each reality star’s look is different but definitely achievable at home, and here’s how to do it…
First of all, how insane was Hailee Steinfeld’s dress? Show stopper. When it came to her hair, celebrity hair stylist Chris Appleton was inspired by the intricate detailing of her dress to create a sleek and sculpted modern updo style. “We went for a bold style to complement the mixture of classic and modern vibe given from her gown.”
Appleton applied TONI&GUY Style Spray Wax throughout the top section of her hair for a high-shine effect and began curling her hair using a 1-inch curling iron.
Here are the other drugstore beauty product winners from this year’s Oscars…
A few weeks back I got invited to attend the Tone it Up Retreat (an event people fly to from all over the world, btw) and then, naturally, I threw my back out a few days before…so I had to drop out. My luck, always. Normally I don’t get very excited about the idea of exercising but I’ve been a big fan of Katrina and Karena for a few years now- I find them both to be super genuine and, most importantly, NOT cheesy or annoying AF. My sarcastic New Yorker-self does not do cheesy and annoying (especially when it comes to doing something I don’t exactly LOVE to do). I think the moment I realized these girls were legit was when I was watching/struggling to do one of their YouTube videos and Katrina made a comment like “yeah, I’m dying…this is super hard” it was then I was like “ok, you get that this sucks!” and I’ve been a #TIUGirl ever since. Here’s what my favorite YouTube trainers/business badasses have to say:
P.S., this ended up being four questions with, mostly because I love K&K and their answers are just as amazing as they are.
Last week I got the chance to sit down the beautiful (seriously, she’s gorgeous) Eva Mendes to chat all about her new beauty line and, of course what advice she’d give her 22-year-old self…here’s what the superstar mom/business woman and Mrs. Ryan Gosling had to say:
Because you’ve seen her all over your Instagram and Snapchat, unless you’ve been hiding under a rock…
It’s not surprising that the most influential stylist in the world (seriously, ask The New York Times) launched her own hair care line, but it is surprising (at least to me) that after using her products in my hair, my blow out lasted THREE FULL DAYS. Guys, that NEVER happens for me (see blow out photo after the jump). Aside from the amazing scent of OUAI products, I am now officially obsessed with the quality and how well they work. Naturally, I had to ask Jen three questions…ok, FOUR in this case, cause she’s awesome, and here’s what the stylist to the stars has to say.
For starters, I’m obsessed with my holiday card this year. I don’t usually even DO a holiday card but, for some reason, I decided this year would be the year to do a fun one. I’m heading to New York in a few days to see my family for Christmas and I can’t wait to spend time with them, especially my 6-year old nephew Mark, and also get in some good New York time as well.
This post makes me want to take that weekend trip to Napa that I’ve been dreaming about since I moved to LA
My friend Annette tried out Rachel Zoe’s pregnancy style and I’m definitely digging it. I also commented that she should do Gwen Stefani next!
If you’ve ever had to deal with cystic acne (like I did in my early 20s), these tips are pretty great.
I love this list of experiences that make for awesome gifts. I want pretty much everything on this list, btw.
These upcoming weeks to Christmas have been INSANE. I’ve been busy planning my trip back to New York to see my family, writing away and trying to meet way too many deadlines before it’s time to relax and bake cookies with my nephew (I dream about this, guys). Hope you all have an amazing week 🙂
How cool is this candle I made on Shutterfly? I’m obsessed.
Yesterday was rough. I wasn’t sure what to expect for my first Father’s Day without my dad and, surprisingly (at least to me), seeing all of everyone’s beautiful wedding photos hurt the most. Knowing that I’ll never have that father daughter dance breaks me.
Then I woke up this morning feeling a little bit more energized, and even more motivated than usual to do the thing I love to do most: create. I miss my blog content, which I had actually slowed down on doing even before my dad’s passing. I miss working with brands I believe in to help them create meaningful marketing content. I miss recording my new podcast, @alittletoomuchpodcast, which really *just* started but I absolutely love doing. Miss is the key word with all of this. I miss my dad more than anything else I’ve listed here but I dunno...maybe it’s cheesy to say this, but i feel like his spirit is driving me forward in a new way...and that means more to me than a photo that I’ll never have, from a relationship that doesn’t even exist...YET. 💫
@misskristagram took this photo of a few of my favorite shoes for @fnplatform a few weeks ago and it puts a big smile on my face. Can you tell I love a leopard shoe? 🐆 What do you guys love to create?
I’m truly at a loss for words but this past Thursday my father passed away in his home, presumably of a heart attack. He just turned 72. If you knew my dad then you know what an honorable man and father he was- the best in the world, truly. @sarah_grise wrote me the most beautiful email telling me about how she will always remember the time he helped us set up our apartment and hung up shelves for her when we lived together in Gramercy and how much that meant to her (Super man, as she called him). His friends have texted me telling me how he never said no to anyone asking for a favor and was always the most fun to be around. It’s the little things about a person that makes them who they are- that’s what you miss the most. I’m devastated beyond belief that my father was taken from me so soon. I truly believed that the universe wouldn’t do that to me after losing my little sister to opioids just three short years ago, but this is what life has handed me and I’m going to do my best to live my best life possible, which is what my dad has always wanted for me. I will miss our almost daily text conversations, our FaceTimes, our Thanksgiving in LA bonding time, Christmas with him, his advice on exercise and eating healthy, and all his stories about him and his best friends. He loved his friends almost as much as he loved Melissa and me. He knew most of them since he was in elementary and high school and their camping, kayaking, and adventures together made his short 72 years the best they could possibly be. I will always be grateful to have had a dad who loved to LIVE his life- I like to think I got a bit of that from him and hope one day to pass that joie de vivre on to my own children.
I will miss him forever, as will so many many others 💚
#SkincareSunday: Favorite CBD lotion? I have few, including this super luxe version from @thelordjones 🌱 It’s not cheap but their formula is one of the best that I’ve tried and it has 100mg of CBD per bottle so it works super well on lower back pain (me!) or even aching feet after a long night wearing heels 👠 What’s your favorite CBD lotion? I need to try more!
